Homosexuals are not suitable to serve in the military.

I agree. I have never served, so I can't speak with first hand knowledge. I do, however, work with warfighters on a daily basis for my job. I get the impression the military doesn't put up with any shenanigans that would disrupt unit cohesiveness, homosexual or otherwise. If somebody is a significant enough problem, they get reprimanded and/or discharged.

And when an openly gay soldier gets reprimanded or discharged just as any "problem soldier" would be there would be screams of bloody murder from special interest groups and most likely lawsuits as well. It would be very detrimental to the military, very easily avoided if they simply did not allow openly gay people to serve in the military.

Is this one of your "devils advocate" posts? You really think homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to serve?

how would that be any different than another minority being discharged for similar reasons?

But what I think is not being understood is if an openly homosexual service member is causing him/herself to be the subject of scrutiny (such as in engaging in acts in a shared barracks room) and the media gets a hold of that story... it'll hit the fan.

Many of these problems exist on almost a weekly basis but the military is able to solve them under wraps. Add in a juicy story about "archaic military homo hating" and that is entirely different.

If the acts are heterosexual in the barracks, there would be punishment too. That being said, I tend to think the military would be more harsh on the homosexual act....not because they are homophobes, but because of what it could do to unit moral/cohesiveness. It's the nature of the game.

I don't believe homosexuals should be barred from serving in the military. I do however believe that those in charge, particularly those in direct contact with soldiers who deal with the day to day goings on should have a large say in the policies the military lays out in this instance.

Got it. So you are for kicking the crap out of people that could have a mental disorder?

Interesting your concern with pedo, is that it is a mental disorder. The victims are generally the first thing I care about.

Minorities, such as?

black, Hispanic, women, etc. I'm betting Jesse and Al are jumping in their RV and road tripping to the nearest base if a black soldier is discharged for "questionable" reasons

I can imagine if you were allowed to be openly gay in the military, initially, there would be certain restrictions. Much like women have now. There's no doubt that you would be hazed. Some might have the unfortunate circumstance of being beaten to death.

But hey, I'm sure after awhile, things would catch on.

Basically think of the speech that Spencer Tracy gives at the end of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, but replace interracial marriage with gays in the military.

If everyone, in every walk of life, could act like me and look like me, it would be all good.

Women are not allowed to serve in front line combat capacities as it is, for very good reason. This, IMO, is no different then not allowing openly gay men or women to serve, the military has very good reason.

There is no reason a black, Hispanic or any other race should be barred from serving in any capacity as long as they meet the requirements. There are a number of reasons that openly gay men and women should not serve.

That's the key word.

Which is exactly the reason I have used that qualifier in every post I have made on this subject. To be clear I have no issue with any gay man or woman serving in the military. It is when you allow men or women to openly flaunt their sexuality that it becomes a problem, not only for those around them but for their own personal safety.

I was on a ship that had a crew of over 800 men and at least one homosexual with the nickname "Midnight Phantom". I can tell you that the possibility of receiving a visit from the "Phantom" did nothing positive for morale.

I understand he was caught in the act, survived the capture, and received a DD.

Hopefully no one received a VD from him. :eek:hmy:

I recall another story of an army built of a certain "type" of person.

Whatever happened to Duty, Honor, Country? It looks like the military is turning pansy by whinning about sexual preference.
