Hopefully, Jim Calhoun Will Finally Get His Due.

UConn had 1 Elite 8, 3 Sweet 16's, and 13 tourney appearances before Calhoun got there.

Tenn had 0 Elite 8's, 3 Sweet 16's, and 13 tourney appearances before Pearl got there and had about 20 more years to achieve that.

UConn didn't join the NCAA until 1959?

No, we are comparing when Calhoun started and when Pearl started (which was 20 years later).

If you want to say their history 1970 and before means it was a solid program Calhoun took over, then do it by all means.

But to even compare Calhoun and Pearl is laughable.

Hat, you have an opinion about the greatest ever? I assume you aren't going to say Wooden or Rupp.

If you compare their first 6 years, you'd be surprised at the result. Laugh away.

Who is who?

3 Sweet 16's, 1 Elite 8, and .703 win %.
2 Sweet 16's, 1 Elite 8, and .618 win %

Knight, but there are several guys who can make a case. If Pete Newell had stayed in the college game, he'd be the answer and nobody would have ever heard of John Wooden as a coach.

I know who is who.

And if you look at the first 8 years of his career, Coach K is at best an average bball coach too, and that's a stretch.

You act surprised. Pearlophiles on this board have said Pearl was better than Bill Self and John Calipari at one point or another. They're just ramping it up by comparing him to Calhoun.

You are missing the point. Somebody compared Calhoun to Pearl and said...

Except one is very successful and never banged the moral superiority drum. One guess to which is which...

My point is Bruce was extremely successful. He was on a better pace than Calhoun.

I am a Pearlophile, I would never say something that dumb, but I am also realistic enough to know that we are never getting Self, Calipari, or Calhoun to come to Knoxville. Pearl WAS here and it's not likely that we find anybody better. That being said, Cuonzo has my full support and I am hoping for the best.

These two respones completely contradict each other.

So because of Pearl's 6 years here we can assume that he was going to bring home multiple national titles and make UT one of the premier programs of college bball?

On the other hand when I point out that you can't take a section of time and automatically assume what will happen after it, I'm missing the point?

Out of curiosity, you think Coach K may pass him up by the time he retires?

False.

It's really not that difficult. You could probably figure out what I'm saying if you didn't put words in my mouth.

Pearl wasn't given enough time to build the program into what Calhoun made UConn. In no way am I saying it would have happened, but nobody can say that it wouldn't have happened. Pearl was extremely successful.

If you want to say Pearl's first six seasons were more successful than Calhoun's I'm fine with that.

But if you are trying to tell me that on April 5, 2011 Pearl is a better coach than Calhoun, then I will strongly disagree.

Yeah, I'm not saying that. At all.

Yeah, that's why UCONN has the largest travelling media throng in the Big East and has since Don Perno was the coach. I bet that sounded great when you made it up.

UConn student section calls for backup - espnW
Students from both Rice University and the Unversity of Houston were offered free tickets to tonight's game, provided they hang out in the UConn section and fill up some of that empty space. Student athletes from UH and the entire student body from Rice were emailed via list serve this morning, with the offer of a free ticket to each of the first 300 respondents from each school

VIDEO: UConn coach Geno Auriemma blames low attendance on 'spoiled' fans- The New Haven Register - Serving New Haven, Connecticut
The regular seeason was great, then we had the tournament in Hartford, then we had the first two rounds so you are asking them to do a lot, I understand that. So I am going to recommend to Jeff (Hathaway, UConn's director of athletics) and everybody else that we don't bid on this tournament for the next five years and see where that takes us."
Made up? Not sure what they care about up there but it sure ain't UConn. :eek:lol:

What he has done at UCONN is the greatest program building job in the history of college basketball. He took over a program with less basketball tradition than Providence and has now won more national titles than Dean Smith. He's one of the ten best all time. Period.

I agree with everything here. Too bad he's also a liar and a cheater. It taints his greatness IMO

I thought this was about Calhoun getting his due punishment for cheating. I guess that's reserved for Pearl. Btw I'm no Pearlophile.

hilarious.

You fight a crusade against Pearl, and call Calhoun a Rushmore coach.

Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

This is what I've said all along. If Calhoun coached in the SEC and beat you twice this year, you guys would be singing a different tune. Instead, the guy is spoken about like a God. But noooooo.....this is a fair neutral fan base.
