If you want to say their history 1970 and before means it was a solid program Calhoun took over, then do it by all means.
But to even compare Calhoun and Pearl is laughable.
If you compare their first 6 years, you'd be surprised at the result. Laugh away.
Who is who?
3 Sweet 16's, 1 Elite 8, and .703 win %.
2 Sweet 16's, 1 Elite 8, and .618 win %
I know who is who.
And if you look at the first 8 years of his career, Coach K is at best an average bball coach too, and that's a stretch.
Except one is very successful and never banged the moral superiority drum. One guess to which is which...
You act surprised. Pearlophiles on this board have said Pearl was better than Bill Self and John Calipari at one point or another. They're just ramping it up by comparing him to Calhoun.
You are missing the point. Somebody compared Calhoun to Pearl and said...
My point is Bruce was extremely successful. He was on a better pace than Calhoun.
These two respones completely contradict each other.
So because of Pearl's 6 years here we can assume that he was going to bring home multiple national titles and make UT one of the premier programs of college bball?
On the other hand when I point out that you can't take a section of time and automatically assume what will happen after it, I'm missing the point?
False.
It's really not that difficult. You could probably figure out what I'm saying if you didn't put words in my mouth.
Pearl wasn't given enough time to build the program into what Calhoun made UConn. In no way am I saying it would have happened, but nobody can say that it wouldn't have happened. Pearl was extremely successful.
Yeah, that's why UCONN has the largest travelling media throng in the Big East and has since Don Perno was the coach. I bet that sounded great when you made it up.
Report: Connecticut takes big financial hit for Fiesta Bowl - College Football News | FOX Sports on MSNStudents from both Rice University and the Unversity of Houston were offered free tickets to tonight's game, provided they hang out in the UConn section and fill up some of that empty space. Student athletes from UH and the entire student body from Rice were emailed via list serve this morning, with the offer of a free ticket to each of the first 300 respondents from each school
VIDEO: UConn coach Geno Auriemma blames low attendance on 'spoiled' fans- The New Haven Register - Serving New Haven, ConnecticutThe Fiesta Bowl allotted UConn 17,500 tickets, but the athletic department only sold 2,771 of them and had to pay for the rest.
Made up? Not sure what they care about up there but it sure ain't UConn. lol:The regular seeason was great, then we had the tournament in Hartford, then we had the first two rounds so you are asking them to do a lot, I understand that. So I am going to recommend to Jeff (Hathaway, UConn's director of athletics) and everybody else that we don't bid on this tournament for the next five years and see where that takes us."
What he has done at UCONN is the greatest program building job in the history of college basketball. He took over a program with less basketball tradition than Providence and has now won more national titles than Dean Smith. He's one of the ten best all time. Period.
I dont know about you, but I had a hard time stomaching the sight of Jim Calhoun holding the championship trophy after Mondays final game of the N.C.A.A. mens basketball tournament.
As for Calhoun, The Times reported earlier this week that he will pocket an $87,500 bonus for winning the N.C.A.A. Championship. The rich white guy wins again.
hilarious.
You fight a crusade against Pearl, and call Calhoun a Rushmore coach.
Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.
