Hopefully that embarrassing loss galvanizes this team

It wasn’t an embarrassing loss and it was always going to be a difficult game on the road except to the Koolaid drinkers just like this Saturday will be

When the number 4 teams loses to an unranked team and is a 14 point favorite yes it is an embarrassing loss.

Especially when your QB who is paid 8 million runs out of bounds as time expires.

The hell you talkin bout? "Our last 8 SEC games" includes 6 with offense players no longer here, with Milton the QB of 6 of those. Of our only 2 QBed by Freshman Nico, both have been SEC road games, and we are 50-50 on those, with both the W and the L giving us things to learn from, as QB, coach and team. ???
The numbers are the numbers.

Whatever anyone thinks of Fulmer, his teams always came back hard after a loss. Ask any of the teams we played after Florida in the 90s, lol.

Best case scenario from that putrid performance vs. Arkansas, is that the embarrassment of such a sad showing pi$$es them off and serves as motivation to play "hair on fire" for the rest of the season and beyond. The game should be played with ill intent, Period! Should never be played scared or apprehensive. Praying it's galvanizing for them instead of creating doubts.
A road loss to Arkansas is not embarrassing!

In order to receive my digital tickets from the seller on Ticketmaster I had to create an online account for University of Arkansas Events. They’ve been blowing up my inbox ever since. This one was super special.

They coached and played badly last Saturday, period. It has absolutely nothing to do with track records, because this group has never played Arkansas before. You still haven't explained how something that happened 5, 10, 30 years ago has a single thing to do with a game last Saturday. You say they played badly, and somehow it has some mysterious thing to do with history. Please tell me how.
Geez man, you're just one of those guys you can't explain anything to.

I think all long term fans of football schools can identify certain trends their teams have had over a long period. Many programs try to bring in new HCs with similar philosophies that's benefited their programs. In most all cases, strengths and weaknesses are going to be similar over long periods of time

That was not an embarrasing loss. Arkansas is a good team and they were playing at home. Upset? Yes, embarrassing? No. Road losses happen in the SEC. An embarrasing loss is what happened in Jackson Mississippi in 1969. Vols were undefeated and ranked number 3 in the country. They might have been the best team in the country. Earlier they had beaten Georgia 17-3, Alabama 41-14, and Auburn 45-19. Ole Miss, behind Archie Manning, beat us 38-0. Overconfidence is not new in sports. It happens all the time. The season is still ahead of us, long way to go. We can shake it off and still have a great season, or we can panic and fold the rest of they year. Fans included.

If you'll actually explain it, I'll be happy to oblige. I simply asked how a result 20 or 30 years ago could have the slightest thing to do with a result this season, and you keep saying it just does without explaining how. Please enlighten me.

I was worried about the game immediately after the OU game. Now, after the offense looking not stellar at all against ARK, I am worried about the rest of the season. Oh, yeah and Vandy will be as pumped for UT as the were for BAMA.

Can't see everything on TV but I am wondering if the receivers are not getting open. I mean when Nico actually had time.
Vandy doesn’t hate Bama, they hate UT. They will be very motivated

I totally get the "what have you done for me lately" deal in high level sports, but thankfully it's primarily a fan and media thing.

Given where this program came from when White and Heupel got here to where it is today when we're just beginning to get back to a depth level to be able to seriously compete, it's absurd to even consider making a change at this point, and I'd bet it hasn't even entered DW's head at this point.

To change coaches at a place like UT would require going back to square one with recruiting, staff building, and team construction. You're talking about another 3-5 year plan. This isn't fantasy sports or Alabama, where recruiting is already built in. The idea is so ridiculous to even contemplate.

If this team somehow goes 7-5 this year and loses some recruits then gets off to a rough start next season, then start having that conversation. But right now, at 4-1 after one tough road loss in the conference? Please stop.
I did not call for him to be replaced, but in year 4, if he is 1-3 versus the worst 4 Florida football teams in the past decade then he needs to have some heat on him. I like Heupel a lot, but the same problems keep coming to light with his teams, bad secondary, oline that gets beat, undisciplined penalties, clock management and end of game playcalling. Everything can be fixed but he needs to beat our rivals with some consistency, his record against our rivals at this point is 2-7 (GA, BAMA and FLA). If he goes 7-5 this season and loses to all our main rivals and throw in a loss to either Vandy or Kentucky, then he needs to be on hotseat watch, that is not TN football expectations in year 4, I think DW would give him a year to improve and not make a change midseason. This is all hypothetical, I am not calling for Heupels job, I am merely asking what the temperature would be on him if he loses to this craptastic Florida team at home on ESPN with Checker Neyland in the background.......

I am giving up on him if he loses to Florida this weekend. This is a down Florida team that is basically a laughing stock. What does it make us if we lose to them? Worse than clowns.

He will need to beat Bama or UGA or both to get back in good graces, but that would seem unlikely if we lose this weekend.

If Heupel loses to this Florida team, how much will the temperature turn up on him?
I don’t think he’ll be on the hot seat.

I’ve returned from Dallas to a “fake” hurricane here in Jax Fl. (No damage and still got power on here) Leaving in the morning to go to Knox to watch my beloved Vols whip these weak Gators and have bragging rights again after destroying them in Knoxville Saturday!! I hope that our offense has its stuff together, the defense destroys the and that the true home crowd is loud and proud from beginning to end of the a.. whipping we give Fl this weekend!! Go Vols!!

We're talking straight hypotheticals, but any heat on him at this point is strictly from the social media faction of the fan base and fanned by the hack click bait media. Danny White is far too smart to do something as shortsighted as "giving him a year to improve" off of one down season, given how far this program has come in the last four years with regard to recruiting and culture.

You guys all look at this stuff from such an incredibly narrow viewpoint fueled by your own emotions. Replacing a stud recruit QB you have groomed for the last year has repercussions far beyond the next game. It will have a huge effect on recruiting, as kids and parents see how quickly a coach abandons a high level recruit.

Same way for replacing a coach who has built a system just beginning to bear fruit. Pull the plug now, or even next year, and there wouldn't be a competent Power 4 coach or top assistant who would come anywhere near this place. You would set the program back 4-5 years, and who the hell knows if we ever get near this level again.

Plowman and White are building an athletic department that is becoming the envy of the college sports world, and there is no better and faster way to derail it than to start going scorched earth because some fans on social media want to burn the place down.

This is the kind of sound reasoning that you people actually believe that Danny White needs to consult as he evaluates the job that CJH is doing?

No. DW only cares about increasing revenue. Up to this point, CJH has helped contribute to that goal. However, a loss to UF this weekend will start to impact the overall revenue for this year. Not enough to get CJH fired. DW only cares about the bottom line, because that is the entire purpose of his job. The wins, championships, etc. just contribute to that goal. Getting us into the post season, ideally the CFP, is Heupel's goal to contribute to that bottom line.

My statements are my own. I will personally give up on CJH because I do not care about the bottom line, I care about our program beating our rivals. I have no bearing on what the admin cares about. I gave up on Dooley and Pruitt for the same reason: they did not consistently beat our rivals. Butch got some rope because to his credit he did beat UF and UGA, but ended up in the same dumpster as those two.

Agree. If he loses to a bad Florida team it is time to start cutting bait.
