Horrible coaching at end of purdue game

Rant is all they can do. They have no basketball knowledge. So ranting and name calling is all that is left.

You're right.

How dare anyone have an opinion. To be a fan, one must be a blind follower.

think about all this for a second.
This team has just a good a chance of making the shot from 3 as they do 4 feet. That was seen during an 8 minute span of 8 shots missed from inside 4 feet.
just a thought

yeah you want to win thats a given. the vols rallied from 5 down to put themselves in position to do that. But why would you be upset when you had your chance to win. sometimes those shots fall in and sometime they dont. but the kep is they put themselves in position to win the game

There was a 68% chance we were going to lose when the ball left Chism's hand.

Question, that I hope does not get lost in the argument. I read earlier that at one point during the game Pearl and Coach Painter were actually screaming at each other for a moment, in a small exchange of words. Any truth to this? I could not get the game yesterday.

Yeah, they kind of were. Pearl was pissed b/c the refs were telling him to get back in the box, and Painter was outside his talking to a ref. So Pearl was yelling at the ref asking why Painter was able to talk to him and he wasn't. So, Painter started yelling at Pearl something to the effect of, "I wasn't saying anything to him."

We played solid defense at the end of the game and had a wide open look to win the ball game....He rushed the shot...He had more time to take his normal rhythm shot. All you can do is put yourself in a position to win.

Anyone saying Wayne should have put the ball on the floor has never watched him play. Bad things happen when he is away from the post area and puts the ball on the floor.

If you want to blame anyone blame Maze for dribbling into a dead end.

i think you are spot on with this

was it any better in maze hands with 2 defenders running at him?

Agreed. I doubt Chism at the top of the key was the play call. Maze waited too long to start attacking and Chism was wide open. I would have prefered a pass down low to Smith, but Chism was wide open. You take that.

Yes, I am surprised Bruce Pearl didn't get a technical for yelling at Painter, he was ridiculous. Bruce lost that game for us...end of discussion. He should have a set offensive play for that situation, and I promise that it wasn't for Wheezy to jack up a 3. After letting BMaze run around for 12-13 sec. at the top of the key, you could hear UT fans in the crowd yelling TIMEOUT! We were killing them inside and Pearl allows that BS..unbelievable. I know this is one game..but we are in for a long season if this sh** continues.

Down by 1, last shot, you want to be aggressive--get the ball close to the hoop and draw a foul. You get fouled you make one to tie, two wins it. Treys are NOT high percentage shots, even when open--35 percent, maybe? And no foul possibility. That's why it's not a smart shot.

Yes apparently what started the screaming was Pearl thought Painter said something to one of the UT players.

Not calling a timeout in that situation is Pearl's style, wrong or right, like it or not.

He doesnt believe in using timeouts in situations like that. I cant really blame him, we are awful in offensive half court sets....We have a better shot at winning by running the ball down and forcing the issue.

Nope. My point is maybe a TO would have given us a better opportunity to win. I know I ate a pizza and drunk a 12 pack before we got to 61.

Terrible coaching at the end why did Chizm shoot a 3???

He was wide open with 4 seconds left. You take that. And I highly doubt that was the play call. Why do you guys not understand that? Sometimes the play isn't there, and you have to get the ball to the open man.

Thing is, he did use a timeout. Two of them, consecutively...just seconds prior, to ice a Purdue free throw shooter.

The Vols had plenty of time to prepare for that scenario offensively...and when the possession arrived, they were lazy and disorganized.

He was wide open and he made a couple of 3s earlier in the game anyway

No. He made A three...not a couple. He finished 1-4 from behind the arc.

I understand he was open...that's no excuse for it being Tennessee's best look in a 17-second possession.

yeah that was a little odd. I have rarely ever seen two timeouts used consecutively to "ice" a junior All American/All Conference free throw shooter.

That was a perfect set up for the final shot. He needs to take that every time if he is that wide open. I was disappointed last night, but not mad. This team is so much better defensively this year, and Chism is unbelievable in the paint this year compared to last year.

But......

Can someone please tell me what JP Princess is good for at all? Anyone? I see a defensive liability who uses his hands and not his feet. No shot. No dribbling ability. No passing ability. No driving ability. He is a 100% liability.

He has an will continue to see his minutes diminish. I laugh in the face at all the people that said he would make it in the Association.

Exactly. Even being wide open, there's still only about a 35% chance that shot goes based on Chism's history. We should have been able to get a higher percentage shot in that situation.

Yeah, I have been surprised at how little he has been bringing to the team this year and yet is still starting. He did make one sweet pass down low to Hopson last night. He has the ability to be much better on defense and has shown in the past that he can slash to the rim. I don't know why he can't put it together, but I would have him come off the bench until he shows he can bring more to the team.
