Hot Take on Pruitt and rebuilding

I'll put it on the record. Nothing short of a national championship would get Pruitt a sniff at the Bama job. The idea that winnng seven games for several years here would do it flies in the face of everyone's assertions that UT is elite. Bama fans would make the Schiano revolt look like a calm discussion over tea and crumpets if their AD tried to foist that change on them.

Ok let's make this clear I like Pruitt and think he is a great fit with one big IF and that is IF he doesn't bolt for Bama in the next few years.

Now with that said I think what we are seeing now with how he is recruiting and burning spots for the 2019 class with grad transfers and this latest juco commit is a coach that is prioritizing a long shot at winning now over Buiding for the future.

Imo these spots we keep burning for 2019 are showing a short sided approach to the rebuilding process. I think we need to be saving spots so that the 2019 class can begin to get us back on track.

Now for the hot take part but I am starting to think there may be some truth to this. Pruitt knows Saban is retiring in a few years and he is desperately trying to win an extra game or two this first year or two so that he puts himself into a better spot to go home. He doesn't really care about taking the approach of rebuilding this thing for the long haul which saving spots for later classes requires.

Make no mistake if he does well here and is offered that job anytime down the line he will bolt. Not even a reason to discuss he will go there in a minute. The point being if he brings us success in that time period which is likely to be five years or more won't matter. We'll need the next hire to be someone that can make it happen with a program that hopefully will be back on top.

Until then why worry just hope he can get it done here and make us a winning program.

I disagree but you could be right. History says legends are replaced by coaches within their tree. Especially when considering that program.

It's Dabo's job if he wants it. How could they overlook him? He's one of only a handful of active coaches with a national title, plus he's a Bammer. They'll also offer him a salary very comparable to what they are paying Saban (~$10m or so), which is a significant bump over what he's making now.

I can see it now. We only manage to win 5-6 games this year and people are going to be saying Pruitt isnt the guy. SMH.

Shake your head all you want. We only win 5 games and I'll be saying he's not "The" guy. I might be wrong, but I'll be saying it.

I truly hope that we are fighting to keep him in 3 to 5 years. That will mean that we are back on track. If he has UT going well not sure why i would give that up to follow a legend. Usually does not work out too well.
Would the Lady Vols situation come to mind (por old War- lick or UCLA sense Woo-ten)??

The best recruiting tool is winning.

This whole slow rebuilding thing is an excuse factory.
Out with the old thought patterns.

Want to win every game.

I agree with this. A coach i today's environment doesn't have the luxury of an understanding fan base.

I don't think anyone here is disagreeing with that.

The issue is will he say yes

Another OMG moment on Volnation.

CJP hasn't won a game as a HC, yet here we are speculating on his departure.

Chicken Little lives....Get the replacement list ready...We continually shoot ourselves in the foot with this kind of thinking.

By the time he has been here for 2-4 years 50% will be begging him to stay and 50% will be wanting him gone or fired.

Live in the moment....Let's get through the first season at least.

Pruitt will be second in line. Dabo is the first call for UA.

I am a Bammer who is in on the quick rebuild and bounce Pruitt conspiracy theory. I agree with everything you said except that it is spelled hawt not hot. Lets show these Tn people we learned something in school.

Lifetime safe at Clemson and easier to win there.

Lots more pressure at Bama.

Longevity

Honestly, I'm not sure he's safe at Clemson for a lifetime. If he goes at few years without a conference title, and it is perceived that FSU or some other conference rival is closing the gap, he'll get heat on him. Just the way college football is now. I agree that the pressure at Alabama is going to be immense for whoever takes that job.

It'll be so hard for him to resist that pull, especially after they dangle $3m more per year in front of him. The guy is from Birmingham, played at Alabama, has two degrees from Alabama, and coached at Alabama for the early part of his career.

I shouldn't have said a lifetime because in this day and age that isn't realistic. However his longevity is much better at Clemson

I agree with your other points
