House votes to decriminalize marijuana at federal level

Possession of drugs is a dumb crime to prosecute. It criminalizes being an addict and does nothing to actually deter addiction. Of course we should prosecute DUI, robbery, vandalism, theft and assaults. Those crimes have victims and arent simply punishing addiction. The whole point of decriminalization drug possession should be to redouble our efforts on prosecuting crimes that actually matter.
The only people who serve prison time for possession are drug dealers with large amounts or career criminals

Do both

In Ohio, up to three ounces was decriminalized many years ago. About a traffic ticket. It was well known to be used against some communities tho... I can cite some Cleveland incidents made famous by podcasters, for example. Of course, national laws still existed, so driving with a weapon and drugs could get you ten years as a felony even then. Simple posession (under three ounces) was USUALLY a traffic ticket tho. It was largely up to the courts. Still works this way outside the medical system.

I understand the idea but who is the victim in only a DUI?

Nanny State. Except in the case of the liquor lobby. They have the elected officials in their pocket. And the corn growers lobby and the barley growers and the potato growers. In the case of marijuana, the law enforcement and prison lobbyists have the influence.

Agreed but nicotine is legal.

Until we make alcohol and smoking products illegal (which I don’t agree with) then any health related argument against marijuana is moot.

Because it’s not just a health thing. I doubt smoking a cig will impair someone remotely close to someone that is smoking weed. Pot heads are quick to point to irrelevant s*** when none of them JUST smoke weed.

I can legally take 5 shots in 15 minutes and be much more impaired than smoking. But I guess that's irrelevant.

I don’t smoke weed. But looking at it objectively, marijuana being illegal makes zero sense. Especially in the context of alcohol and tobacco. Health, impairment, etc…there are no good arguments.

It’s a naturally occurring plant that kills less people than aspirin every year and has legitimate medical benefits. These arguments against it are dumb.

There are actual valid arguments against it when it comes to heavy, recreational use. Long term heavy, recreational use is not good for anyone. Also it seems THC can have a different effect on some people than it can others.

Isn't there long term heavy use issue with alcohol and smoking? Alcohol also effects people different
