how bad is the dope problem?

They only kill the weak ones. Think of it as Darwinism for your brain. It is actually weeding (no pun intended) out the less desirable brain cells so that the stronger, more virile brain cells can dominate.

I can envision the guys who came up with that little theory right now. . . .complete with some couches they "inherited" when their parents bought real furniture, a Grateful Dead CD on repeat, and a bag of Doritos on its last leg.

This is a repost I wrote in another thread:

Actually, chronic MJ smoking can have a number of harmful effects on the body, most notably on the heart and lungs. The popular notion that MJ smoke is free of carcinogens has been debunked, and the evidence is clear in the medical literature.

Of course, the most common problems caused by THC use are found in the CNS: "Amotivational Syndrome," anxiety, depression, memory impairment, and schizophrenia.

Of course, many people will relay a story of some brilliant friend who scored a 36 on his ACT and now studies at Harvard as "proof" that MJ is safe. But, this is the exception, not the rule. The evidence is very convincing that there are numerous adverse effects. To say that chronic MJ use would not affect an athlete's performance is, quite simply, preposterous.

And this is a repost for you to have a reality check up. Get rid of athletes that smoke weed- get rid of sports as we know them. Plain and simple. If that's what you want then continue on your crusade, but these cats are still gonna be lighting up.(Many of them as we "type")

how bad is the dope problem across all campuses. we've had a bunch of basketball players get kicked off because of dope. surely we are not the only school that has this issues. it also seems to be getting worse every year. it must be one heck of a drug to risk your education and possible pro future.

Surprisingly lax drug policies for athletes are major universities helps foster the culture. In high school, one of my friends dealt to TN football/basketball team. I'd say at that time around 90% of the players were smoking regularly, partially because they knew their actions would have minimal consequences. Players had to fail something like 4 or 5 "random" drug tests before being kicked off the team (facing serious punishment). Alot of the guys would smoke until they only had one fail left. At this point they would switch to drugs that left the body sooner (mushrooms, etc.). It was a pretty eye-opening experience.

I always felt that part of the reason for the widespread use is that it's easier/quicker for an extremely busy athlete to catch a buzz from marijuana as opposed to alcohol. Also, you don't have to worry about underage drinking and fake ID's. Ultimately it just seems to be much more convenient for them to smoke.

Funny, the notion that I am the one in need of a reality "check up."

Just so you know, we uneducated, conspiracist doctor-folk swear by an Oath to pursue our "crusade," so I'm afraid that losing a few drug-abusing, gun-toting athletes won't shake me a bit. Google "Hippocratic Oath."

I appreciate the opportunity to provide insight into the issues of marijuana use and vaccines, and I will rest my case, at this point. It's painfully obvious that we aren't going to see eye-to-eye, and I am quite confident that the vast majority of people know who to trust when it comes to medical information.

Have heard possibly one symptom of smoking weed was memory loss as in Alzheimer's Disease.

yup. like the comedian once said, there's a reason they call it dope. Why do it, though? Because the counter-culture is attractive, and it feels good. I don't do it, but I haven't forgotten why I used to.

What comedian said that, and why wasn't he trying to be funny? I think they should legalize weed and make comedians who aren't funny illegal....
