How do the Vols want the rest of the SEC to play out?

Great is a bit strong. 30 RPI is solid and so is a 15 SOS. But if they were great then Bama wouldn't still be on the bubble.
Anything better than 40 is great for a bubble team, imo. Alabama's resume was never the concern; the concern was whether they could win without Mitchell and Green.

That enough evidence for you that they DON'T look at Last 10 games?

I have seen other columns about the same stuff and while I believe what is in the column it always sounds a lot like a person on a job training a new employee. When you train someone to do a thing you spend your time showing them exactly the way the boss/company wants it done. You make sure the trainee follows every single little step and rule. Then the trainee leaves and you go back to doing your job the way you always do, shortcuts and all. I have a suspicion that during these mock committees the guest are held much more strictly to the rules than the actual committee holds themselves.

Good point. I don't know whether or not these "mock committees" are credible or not, but the NCAA has said plenty of times over the past few years that they don't really look at how a team has performed down the stretch, unless there were injuries. They have said that they consider injuries.

I didn't realize you could qualify great. Isn't great "for a bubble team" just another way of saying "good". I do agree with your assessment about Mitchell and Green, and now that Bama has righted the ship, they should be just fine.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "great." Perhaps "great compared to everyone else on the bubble."

I will agree with that. I may not have read far enough back to realize you were talking about bubble teams. Anyway, I think they are in. They have proven they can win without Mitchell and Green so their resume should speak for itself. They really seem to be playing for seeding. Hopefully they don't get stuck with an 8 or 9.

I think the seeding for the SEC tournament will be as follows:
1 Kentucky
2 Florida
3 Vandy
4 Bama
5 LSU
6 Miss St
7 Tennessee
8 Arkansas
9 Ole Miss
10 Auburn
11 Georgia
12 S Carolina

I still think we'll end up as a 7. I think we lose our last 2, and Bama, LSU, and MSU all win their last 2.

Only difference with this is I'm flipping Vandy and UF. I think Vandy wins at home. Also flipping Auburn and UGA after the Dawgs win vs. Fla.

BTW, I think this is the absolute best possible scenario for Tennessee.

We stay on the other side of the bracket from UK. After beating Georgia :crossfingers: we get a 3rd shot at Vandy, who I think we beat (only because it's hard to get 3 wins over a quality team in the same season). Florida is on the same side as us, but they would likely play MSU, who can be red hot or ice cold. They could beat Florida. If so, I love our chances at a rematch against MSU in the SEC semifinals.

Championship game - if we get there. Always a chance. I don't like it, but this scenario would guarantee a good spot for us in the NIT. Maybe even an opening round home game

Maybe I was wrong about best-case scenario because Tennessee still has a shot at the #2 seed in the SEC tournament.

How it works:
Vandy beats UF and loses to us
Bama likely wins out
UF loses to both UK and Vandy
We beat LSU and Vandy

UK would obviously get the #1 seed. And then there would be 4 teams tied for 2nd. The first tie-breaker is win % vs those teams. They would be as follows: Vandy (60%), Florida (40%), Bama (33%), Tennessee (60%). Then it would be a 2 team tie-breaker for the 2nd seed between Vandy and Tennessee. The head-to-head would be tied, then it would go to record vs. the #1 team and on down. We both have 2 losses to UK. #2 gets skipped obviously, then it goes to #4 - which is Florida. We obviously have the better record. So under this scenario, Tennessee could get a 2 seed in the SEC tournament.

As the 2 seed, we'd stay on the other side of the bracket of UK, get a 1st round bye. And play the winner of MSU/Vandy as long as MSU beats Auburn. MSU already beat Vandy earlier this year, so they could do it again. I would relish a rematch

Def best case scenario here. Finishing 2nd would be extremely impressive considering we were picked 10-11th in the preseason. Then if we can manage a win or two in the tourney we would surely be back on the bubble.

It doesn't matter between 2 and 3. Best case is Florida getting a 2 or 3 with UT getting the other and Vandy getting the 4 with Bama in the upper bracket.

That's an impossible scenario

What part is impossible? If Florida beat Vandy they lock up 2nd right? Then UT wins out and Bama drops a game. Then UT is 10-6 and Vandy 9-7. Vandy beat Bama so they would win the tie breaker so Vandy 4, Bama 5 and they get the prize of playing UK (probably) in the Semis. Am I missing something obvious?

I know we basically aren’t really on the bubble, but this link is coming from the guy who is 2nd overall in bracketology predictions over the years, well ahead of lunardi at ESPN

Interesting comments on Tennessee…and winning the next 2 somehow, I think would put us at least in the discussion.

Nice to see this. Maybe Jimmy Hyams, John Pennington, Will West and all the other "experts" who have scoffed over the last week at UT's chances of an at large will read this.
