How do we win in Afghanistan?

It looks like strategy in Afghanistan is taking a dramatic change. U.S. and NATO Forces are basically going to stop looking at the Taliban as a terror organization and look at it more as a drug cartel.

If the war on drugs in Afghanistan is similar to the war on drugs we have here at home, then we will never leave or show any positive results.

For politicians, the war on drugs has been a resounding success. It's eroded constitutionally protected rights while increasing government power. Crime increases resulting in more government employees and more jails. Law abiding citizens are treated with suspicion with their own assets. Assets that are not explained to the satisfaction of the authorities are confiscated, for use by the government. Our founding fathers went to war over much less government encroachment.

The Trump White House’s War Within - POLITICO Magazine

I don't see any easy way on this one. Viewed as invaders or colonizers by the locals, they may not care whether our modernity can lead to longer term improvements in the country. A difficult situation to build a bridge from our values to theirs in a way which result in both peace and good relations with the non-Islamic world.

To win there is very simple. Surround the country and don't let anyone out.:clapping:

Hope you are doing well Carlos.

This has been bothering me. Carlos is serving our country and currently deployed. We have all talked with him and should know this but yet he is not getting any support from the same crowd that complains about the NFL players kneeling during the national anthem because it's disrespectful. How about showing him some respect and at least wish him well.

I find it comical that a man that got a bunch of deferments when it was his time to serve the country that he claims to have love for in Vietnam is up in arms about people taking a knee.

Vietnam military deferments is a common trait that the most vocal chicken hawk neocons share. The psychopaths in Washington are more than willing to shed your blood for their re-election.

how is he not getting support?

most of us in talking to him in various points have said stuff along the lines of "stay safe brother", "come back home", "good to see you back". not sure what else there is for us to do on VN?

Well actually it would be nice to start a thread for him and others since If they happen to get the chance to see anything online from the states that they will know we are thinking about them. Since he is vested in this region I thought it only fitting for it to be expressed here now that he is gone.

Wait just a minute hoss, Carlos is against the war that he volunteered to go into and yet you want us to bend over backwards and show him some love? Lol ok.

You could have said good luck instead of being a POS. You bent over backwards to not support him. You are one pathetic little person. Utterly disgusting.

Danish said that the first three floors of the five-story hotel had been cleared and that security forces were working to clear the remaining two floors.

Am I the only one that thinks putting "luxury hotel" and "Afghanistan" in the same article shouldn't be allowed?
