They want us there to help secure their country from extremist.

Who is "They"? Outside of Kabul, Afghanistan is a collection of tribes and local warlords that don't recognize the country or its borders. They have varying degrees of support to terrorist organizations...from outright conflict with them, to tacit support.

If you mean the government in Kabul wants us there to prop them up, then I would say that is obvious. The majority of the country, however, either don't want us there or couldn't care less as long as they are left alone.

We have to adopt the Soviet method of an Afghanistan pull out.

Put into power the faction we want and run like hell before they start fighting each other again.

No, they want us there to secure their poppy exports.

U.S. and Afghan forces have launched a series of attacks on narcotics laboratories in southern Afghanistan, marking the start of what could become a long, expanded air war there under President Trump.

The initial strikes, which began Sunday and were ongoing Monday, represent the first significant use of new legal authorities granted by the Trump administration in August that enable the Pentagon to target Taliban revenue streams, said Army Gen. John W. Nicholson Jr., the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan. Previously, the U.S. military conducted strikes only when facing imminent threat or working directly with the Afghans.

Because that worked out so well for us the last time it went down like that. Maybe this time they’ll put planes into the Kremlin instead.

There is no way to "win" in Afghanistan.

We can achieve victories over who we might consider "enemies," we can put into power the faction we want, we can do everything short of exterminating every Afghani in that nation and still not win.

I’m not saying we can win. I was just being a smart ass. Thinking about the last scene in Charlie Wilson’s War when he says “all the crazies are coming in”.

Lot of truth there.

2 places in the world where poppies grow well..afghanistan and mexico. Watched 60 min documentary showimg the mexican cartels flying in the chemists through colombia, to show them how to refine opium in to its powdered form, diacetylmorphine..commonly known as "china" or "china white".

The cartels seized on our epidemic of controlled opiate addiction, and now import ton after ton of a powder far more expensive than cocaine in the US, twice as expensive actually at around 120,000 US a kilo. Some black tar heroin still comes in unrefined through California, but the vast majority is China white. Enter the chinese, who manufacture fentanyl, a chemical 50 to 100x as strong as pure uncut heroin, and dealers start adding a couple of drops to their supply to get more bang for the buck. Then they can cut their stuff by 50% or more and double their riches.

Problem is, these guys arent chemists. So they dont achieve homogenous mixtures that are the same throughout...ending up with "hot spots" in their dope. Which have a high concentration of fentanyl. This is why 140 people A DAY OVERDOSE in the US alone. 68,000 people last year died here from opiates. More than we lost in the entire Viet Nam war.

Speaking as a man who became addicted to pain pills after 5 years and 2 spine surgeries, i believe in personal accountability. Mine. And everyone elses. I also know for sure that Big Pharma knew they were pushing this crap on the public, and knew it was the single mosr addictive crap on earth.

Also the US govt passed legislation in 2001 calling pain "the 5th vital sign" and our govt, along with the medical community, decided that they were going to treat pain more aggressively. Pain pills for everyone. Nobody hurts. Ever. Bet you never hear about that part though?

All we ever hear is about these worthless addicts and junkies...destroying America because they are sick and weak. Forget about the fact that the govt, big Pharm and their lobbies, and the medical community wrote enough prescriptions fpr opiates EVERY SINGLE YEAR from about 2000 to 2015 for all 330 million americans to have a 90 day supply of vicodin or percocet. Amazing.

Damn near cost me my family and everything that matters to me. Question your doctors. Dont take pills just because they gave them to you. I never doctor shopped, never went to a pill mill...nothing. went from my primary, to a neurologist and surgeon. Did everything they ever told me to. Spine injections, PT, surgeries, spinal fusion.

If i listened to them, i would still be in some pain management facility...taking a piss test every 2 weeks and strung out on pain meds for the rest of my life. I chose to be in pain, and save my family and life.

There are crooks everywhere.

A lot of these people are mixing Fentanyl with their dope..and like you said..they ain't chemists (or good at math) and make stuff that kills people. This is one of the byproducts of left wing riots. Start a riot about some social justice cause that CNN will run with and loot a CVS to get your cutting agents.

An attacker driving an ambulance packed with explosives detonated them Saturday in Kabul, leaving 40 people dead and 140 others injured, Afghan officials said.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mojahid claimed responsibility for the attack.
The blast occurred around 12:45 p.m. local time after the vehicle passed through a security checkpoint, Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi told CNN.
Police identified the attacker at a second checkpoint but couldn't stop him before he detonated the explosives near the old Ministry of the Interior building, Rahimi said.
