How do you guys feel about the bowl game?

About the most boring opponent I could think of , just want to see new guys get lots of work. Want to win of course but it really doesn’t matter in a exhibition game

We have some lame fans. How in the world anyone who calls themselves Vol fans aren’t extremely excited about this bowl is baffling. Two NY6 bowls in a row??? 5 years ago if anyone said we would be playing in back to back NY6 bowls in year 2 and 3, it would have been met with laughs and condescension.
Though played on New Years Day, the Citrus is not considered one of the New Years Six bowls. I’m still proud of what Heupel has done and what Joe did for us. But mentally I have moved on to the 12 team playoff era and hoping that Nico can get us there. Am very happy with our portal pickups so far. Hoping for a little more help in the secondary and maybe in the dline.
Go Vols!

I still think we win.

They don't have an offense that can take advantage of our portal losses. Our secondary is suspect, but our D line is back, and they have struggled in pass protection. I don't think they are a very complicated offense so I don't think they will confuse our young guys. but that could also be the hindrance, they run a type of offense you don't really see in the SEC.

I think our offense will struggle with their D, but a couple big plays will give us the lead and help us keep it imo. Sampson will be huge here. Small isn't fast enough to break a big play against them. I think we will have to be a lot smarter about when we decide to take a deep shot. Hopefully none on third and short deep on our side of the field. getting first downs will be a struggle.

also jmo but I don't really care about the outcome, short of us getting blown out. I care far more about getting Nico playing time. I think he should get at least the full second half. even if it costs us the win. let him take some lumps and start working with the rest of the team.

I miss the day when all bowls were special and the players and fans treated it that way.

There was no opting out by players

they mattered because it was one of the few games you were guaranteed to get on TV back in the old days. it was also more important because the fans weren't demanding a conference championship every other year or else fire the coach.

if you are just a fan of the sport in general I have no idea how you can consider them meaningless.

It's an exhibition game. A send off to the seniors that decide to play and a glorified spring game for the newbies that are getting a shot at filling in at some positions. That's what every bowl game outside of the playoffs has become. No expectations.

If you do not hold John Ward in the highest esteem, I will not begrudge you your life or opinion, so long as you have the courtesy to demur from discussions of John Ward amidst those who remember him fondly.

The result will determine the seat temperature for JH in the off-season. For all you post monitors, that doesn't mean he'll been on "fire watch" for '24. Just that his approval rating (which took a huge hit in '23) can get a nice boost - or further decline.

It’s a “bragging rights” kind of game for me. Here in the Chicago area there are lots of Iowa grads and fans. So I am very interested

This is essentially a glorified scrimmage. As long as the Vols give some playing time to younger players who are actually going to be here next year, I'll be happy.

Otherwise, as an alum of both schools, I'm going to win and lose no matter what.

Then that's the way the top bowl games have always been. People act like bowl games don't matter NOW with the playoffs but does that mean they never mattered since outside of a few bowl games none of them had an impact on the national championship?

John Ward was the BEST to ever do it. Any sport . Tennessee fans that couldn't see the game; actually got a clearer view than those in attendance. Magic.

GET OFF MY LAWN! Just messing with you. No, I’m with you. When I was younger it seemed like even the second tier bowl games were exciting. I lived for the Sun Bowl that always had a great match up. Gator Bowl seemed more important than it seems now. Idk. Now we’re losing what was the fantastic regional flavor of college football with the emergence of Super Conferences and the Wild West of NIL. Although, I don’t have a problem with NIL on a basic level. Oh well, it’s still the best football on tv and in person.

Under two weeks until the game. How do you Vols feel about the Citrus Bowl game at this point?

Tenn has taken a decent roster hit from the portal, especially in the secondary.

Iowa on the other hand has been basically untouched to this point by portal madness and none of the defensive players who are sure-fire NFL picks have opted out for Iowa either.

Still feel that your speed will be too much for Iowa and win the day for UT?

Not really giving it much thought. It's not a popular opinion but unless the bowl is part of the national championship, it's meaningless. It's an exhibition game as far as I am concerned.
I couldn't even tell you who played in the citrus bowl last season.
I'll watch it. And I hope UT does well. Mostly I hope the players who will participate have a great time and come out with no injuries.

Not sure how anyone could have forgotten this classic SEC-Big 10 slug fest from last year.
