How do you remember Ainge?

Wow, I cant believe so many people blame so much on him. He did some stupid stuff, but I think overall he was good. I guess your not a good qb if you cannot dominate every opponent although he cannot play every single position. I think the inconsistancy on defense and the ability for them to give up on the run so soon doomed Ainge.

Hmmm... then explaine how Sanders was able to get two freshmen on the field in 2004 or how he was able to make Woodson a decent SEC QB.

Don't have to...Ainge basically devolved from his freshman year and cost the OC his job....either Sanders couldn't coach him up or Ainge wasn't soaking up the coaching. Sanders didn't do as good a job as Cut but I think Ainge was a relatively weak vessel for anyone to work with....Woodson seemed to be made of sterner stuff.

I think he also had a weak set of receivers to work with in his four years compared to some of the other QBs.

The thing I notice from Woodson is 1) really good receivers 2) they are not afraid to just throw it up and see what happens. Sometimes you have to just do that to loosen things up. I didn't see agressive play calls like this for most of the year.

Dan I think he "had" all the skills when he arrived but he melted down mentally and then played the game scared after taking some injuries. I think he lost mine, and a lot of other fan's respect when he started playing chicken **** football.

I think Ainge was at his best when he came off the bench to spell Schaeffer (how ever you spell it). It seemed to me that EA had a mental block with being the one and only.

I probably would not have lasted long as OC but I would have started Crompton for a couple of series and then brought EA for the change up just because he seemed to function so much better in a tandem

All I can think of when I hear his name is the 2 picks in the 4th quarter of the SECCG last month. Maybe soon I can think of some good things....

Good quote for EA to go out on:

“At one point in the game, (Ainge) actually said to one of the players, ‘Keep blitzing,’” UW cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu said.
“It kind of made me a little nervous,” Ikegwuonu added. “I’m out there like, geez, we can’t get any pressure on him or we’re running blitzes and he’s still sitting back there with all day to throw the ball.
“He’s a good decision maker, he knows where to put the ball … you need the quarterback to make a couple mistakes so it was really frustrating.”

Yeah, someone should've told the UW coaches that if they'd just drop 7, eventually, he'll throw it to one of them.

LSU - 05 (Deer in headlights)
GA - 06 (putting 51 up on GA at Sanford - Priceless)

I don't particularly like to bash, and after more time has passed I might feel differently, but my overall impression at this point is not very positive.

He had some good moments and put up some numbers, but I was just never comfortable with him at QB. All too often, I somehow found myself looking for the bad play moreso than expecting a good one. There were just two many lapses that really hurt (best recent example: the INTS in the SECCG). IMO, he just didn't inspire confidence and had a tendency to perform poorly under pressure. I still wince at the memory of the INT in the LSU game when he got wrapped around the goal post. That was pretty close to the worst-looking play I've ever seen from a UT QB.

I wish him well, but to be honest I'm a little relieved that his UT career is over. We've had better; I'm sure we'll have better again.

Ainge...a pretty good quarterback who we all thought might have been better than he was.

The bad game against LSU is part of his legacy, but that will fade in time. I was mad at heck for Andy Kelly for his mistakes in the Fiesta Bowl that ended his career, but I remember the back-to-back SEC titles and major bowl wins and the Notre Dame comeback much better now.

I don't see that Ainge was better than Casey Clausen. Ainge could make throws Clausen couldn't, but Casey didn't crack under pressure like Ainge sometimes did. If Ainge's college career reminded me of anyone, it was Chris Simms.
