How does Coach Grade out to this Point (mid-season)

Oh, I don't know... maybe just like folks rated Dooley pretty quickly after inheriting a TRULY messed up program.

Oh? Jr QB, 4 Sr OL's and one JR, six of the first 8 on the DL upperclassmen. First 5 or 6 LB's upper classmen.

There were and ARE roster issues... but not nearly as bad or abnormal as many of you want to think.

True. But some of those guys were quality coaches and especially on the OL. That really doesn't touch the players much. How about expanding on that a little. Frankly, that's a pretty tired excuse for a coach who has been in charge for about 10 months now.

He has beaten no one he wasn't supposed to beat and has lost to everyone who he was expected to lose to. At this point, he has not proven he can get it done ON the field. A championship coach is the difference between winning and losing in some games. If you are waiting on UT to have talent so dominant that Les Miles could win a NC with them... you are likely to wait a long while.

UT doesn't have 4 or 5 seasons to give him. He has to prove he can outcoach someone long before that.

someone's not happy

Dude, give it up. Dooley was terrible.

I will put Coach Jones at an 8. It would have been lower Before the Georgia game. Here is hoping he can keep it going. I am curious to see if anyone comes back and changes their rating after the SC game.

In all fairness Dooley wasn't hammered until UK beat us with a WR at QB.

Being realistic is never abundant here on VN and probably never will be unfortunately.

I expected our O line to be better than I've seen so far and I thought we'd bulldoze teams alot more with our running game but maybe I overexpected on that.

Our RB's are decent but not elite like the best teams are at that position.

We have some good WR's and TE's but not as many elite players at those positions as the top teams have.

Our DB's and LB's just don't have the speed we need to compete with the best teams yet and our D line has alot to be built upon too.

Many here keep saying we have great talent but that's simply not true...YET!

bUTch is working hard to try and recruit much better talent all over the field but we ARE in a total rebuilding mode and it simply IS going to take several years and some luck to get some WINS against top teams to get the very best recruits to seriously consider coming to Tennessee to play their college careers.

I DO see improvement in several areas and that's all I really expected to see this season and next season too and if we make it to a bowl game this season and next than I believe we're finally back on the right road to work our way back up the mountain to where we all know we should be at.

Anyone that really thought we were going to get a Win against Oregon, Florida, Georgia, USCe and Bama were in dreamland but we always hope and overexpect because we bleed UT Orange with every breath.

We simply just don't have the elite talent to match up against the top teams just now and next year we'll lose most of our O linemen too so it's going to be a tough uphill battle for a few more years despite how badly all of us want to Win now.

I honestly thought UGA would beat us by 2 or 3 TD's but we damn near beat them and got a huge upset and the fight and never quit attitude I saw from our footVol team was great to finally see again.

We're slowly getting there but you can expect to be let down as long as you continue to overexpect so much.

I expect improvement week by week and to be in a bowl game this year but I won't be surprised if we aren't because I judge our player talent realistically.

Now lets go out and kick some butts and finish this season strong like we all want to see!!!

Recruiting...10

Coaching...6

What I like is I would have rated coaching a 4 or 5 just a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully in another couple of weeks it'll be a 7 or 8.

SIAP, but I think the best way to grade the staff, especially so incredibly early in their tenure, is to look at how the team has improved from week 1 through the present. With this in mind, I have to give them a solid 8. There is no question the team has made solid strides, and the personnel is still subpar. This program is in good hands everyone, we just need to be patient for another 2 years, and the tables will be turned.

If Tooley had this roster, we would have a single win right now, at best. Oregon puts up 100+. He would have been too busy looking like a weasel to make any adjustments.
