How doesn't Croom get the 3rd spot

Not that he is moving to the slot "position" necessarily. It was more to move him in from the outside so he would be picked up by a nickel back or LB to create a big mismatch. His route running isn't where Coach Z wants it. A good corner would shut him down even with a big size advantage. So the move inside would be to create a mismatch like New Orleans does with Jimmy Gramm at tight end. Croom can't play TE either
Hey Jack , makes since to me

Wasn't it Croom that the coach yelled at:

"You're 6'5" ! Stop Jumping!" ??

Not to assume I know more than CBJ, cause I don't and I'm no coach. I do think that maybe jumping isn't a bad deal. he's tall, today's defense players are reckless and will seek to take you out of a game. If this means practically crippling you by breaking your leg or hyper-extending your knee, they will do it. By being in the air, you minimize such opportunities. At the moment you're catching the ball, you don't really know when a defender aiming at your most vulnerable anatomy.

Fair enough.

Does this help?
