please explain specifically what (in your mind) the republicans have to do to win over minority voters.

endorse:

racial quotas
illegal immigration amnesty
massive tax increases on "the rich"
voter fraud by ACORN
stop telling minorities that they are individuals and are responsible for the consequences of their own actions

at least, this is what the democrats have done to win over minority voters

A lot of things, but here goes:

1) Sell the notion that their libertarian views as to the U.S. Constitution as a curb to government power specifically includes treatment of minorities by every level of government, from police on up through the courts.

2) Don't say things like its not our fault that the minorities don't like us, its they who are being racist, and so we refuse to change our policies or views just to placate them.

3) Actively recruit and promote minority candidates who come from inner city or rural areas and have backgrounds more similar to the experience of the poor minority, rather than the advantaged one.

4) Ignore Jesse Jackson and Reverend Wright and Al Sharpton. There is no way they will be embraced by the GOP, of course. But the constant reference to them by conservative commentators gives the impression that conservatives who support the GOP think that those three gentlemen, if they don't typify the views of all black people, at least can be used to mock them.

Minority groups will become disinterested again once there is no longer a minority candidate on the platform. You can book that.

What needs to happen is that republicans need to educate the black community exactly what it is that is tearing it apart. Strong work ethic, personal responsibility, etc, these are the things that are tearing them apart and there is a serious lack of all these things present in their communities. It is also becoming more prevalent in communities across America as a whole.
That's what the black community needs. A bunch of arrogant and paternalistic suburban and rural Bible thumpers to "educate" them.

would it ease your delicate sensibilities if the GOP hired a bunch of Agnostics? because you seem to have a real problem with Christian conservatives.

While joevol's initial post may have been poorly worded, lawgator's outrage about his use of "black guys" is misguided. It is a known fact (spoken and admitted by al-Qaida officials) that al-Qaida is specifically targeting African Americans in their recruiting efforts to use in attacks because African Americans will have a lower profile (will go unnoticed easier) than other muslims.

Quick search of the subject:

ISCA - The Islamic Supreme Council of America

Federal law enforcement officials are concerned that al-Qaida is targeting what authorities fear is an increasingly fertile breeding ground for Islamic extremism: U.S. prisons.

Over the past year, officials have suspected that al-Qaida and other extremists have been reaching out to U.S. prisoners through reading material and personal contacts to try to form a base from which to gather information, funding and recruits.

Shuaibe says he believes al-Qaida and other extremists have been targeting African-American prisoners, who they hope will turn against the country. Most Muslims in U.S. prisons are African-American.

"In some ways, the psychological impact of racism is similar to the feelings of oppression [Muslim radicals] have toward the United States," Shuaibe said. "It's the human reaction to an overwhelming power. And where else can you find a pool of people willing to use violence to reach their goals than prison?"

Blacks recruited for terror by al-Qaida

Al-Qaida is aggressively recruiting black Americans for suicide operations against the homeland, say FBI analysts who have reviewed recent videotaped messages from the terror group's leaders.

A speech released May 5 by Osama bin Laden's deputy confirms earlier fears that African-Americans are the No. 1 recruiting target for the next generation of attacks. Al-Qaida has been trying to lower its Arab profile to reduce the odds that its terror cells will be subjected to security scrutiny.

According to a transcript of the hour-long screed, Zawahiri said this is "the culture which the struggler and martyr Malcom X (may Allah have mercy upon him) fought against when he told his repressed black brothers in America, 'If you're not ready to die for it, take the word "freedom" out of your vocabulary.'"

the same people who think the GOP is home to racial intolerance are the same people who would never dream voting republican in the first place.
That's utter garbage. I grew up consistently supporting and voting for republicans. Then, I looked around one day and realized that meant I was aiding and abetting a party hijacked by Flat Earthers, Intelligent Designers, NRA honks, Enemies of the Fourth Amendment, Corporate Welfare recipients, Snakehandlers, and Neo Colonialists.

so you support who exactly? or are you of the bitch, but not do anything about it camp? i doubt you'd have many registered republican, libertarians, or democrats, for that matter, if every individual decided that the lunatic fringe in the party had to agree with their personal beliefs.

the neo nazis are left wingers and I doubt the more hardcore militia types are in any way enamored with the GOP, especially after Ruby Ridge.
I guess the reason so many Neo Nazi groups call Idaho home is because it has been such a democratic state in the last 45 years .:eek:k:

You are highlighting what I think is the larger issue: our two party system screws us all, in the end.

If they did these things could they even capture the generalizing, guilt ridden, attention whores such as you? Or would they have to change the message again for that?

so you support who exactly?
People who 1. don't spend tax dollars like lottery windfalls, 2. realize the government has no business telling people what they can and cannot put into, or take out of, their own bodies, 3. don't treat our military like their own private hessians by using them to settle personal grudges and engage in neo colonial expansion, 4. prefer science to fairy tales and fables, 5. understand that the Fourth Amendment is a whole Hell of a lot more important to one's personal liberty than the Second, 6. realize "issues" like gay marriage, flag burning, and prayer at high school graduations aren't issues at all, and 7. at least have a modicum of knowledge of the world outside their own back yard.

George Bush and Dick Cheney are the "lunatic fringe" of the GOP?

Sorry, but that answer was non conclusive. Every party has a little ownership.
Edit: Was referring to the post above the one above me.

I could give a damn about party affiliation. Voting according to that is for the mentally infirm, the uninformed, and the lazy. Give me an intelligent candidate who understands the miniscule part the federal government should play in the everyday lives of Americans and they'll get my vote.

So we have gone a complete 180? Because I think the lunatic fringe of the other party seems to be sitting in their seats now.
No, the left's idiot wing thinks you can negotiate with religious nuts, like the Taliban. The GOP's lunatic fringe is inhabited by religious nuts. That's the difference.

Well if he isn't the lunatic fringe, that is rather scary to think it gets worse over on that side. Plus, the left has religion, it just has nothing to do with a god.

Sounds good to me, just don't know that I see those people.

Where did I say Obama wasn't on the outer limits of his party? I don't consider the term "idiot wing" to be a compliment.
