How good are the sooners?

I was talking to a friend from work yesterday who is a Kansas alum. They were 3-9 last year (& got blown out by some bad teams) and lost by only a couple of TDs to OU at home. He said they were right in the game until the 4th Quarter.

It will be interesting to see whether Mixon and DGB will be playing in the game against us. As with most games, it will come down to which QBs on both sides of the ball show up for the game...

I've been OK for 10yrs. OU is a mirror reflection of CBS they tend to get over confident at times and play down to their competition. Their home record is stellar, but their due for a loss at home. The OU fans are the worst in the country. I can't go a day without wanting to punch one in the face. The only time I've ever pull for Bama is when they played last year.

Yeah they beat bama, but I'm looking for a jimmies and joes breakdown.

Last week, I had a training event for work. I met a guy from my firm's Dallas office who was a sooner alum.

We started chatting about the upcoming season and I said the sooners were primed for a solid year, especially with their young star QB.

He told me to slow it down, that no one watched the QB play throughout the year and what he did against bama was quote "play out of his F---ing mind."

My coworker was afraid OU was overrated.

It made me wonder how good big game bob's crew actually is, and how much of their perception is solely based on "oh my gosh they beat holy Saban."

Thoughts?

Landthieves.com has them thinking and hoping they put 70 on us bc we are in the SEC.
Not worried, pressure is all on them. They were mediocre last year except for the Bammer game. People forget they were blown out by Baylor and their qb was average at best for the majority of the year.

Alright, let's not get all stoop-id up in here. We ARE Tennessee. This is no longer a Doofus led squad. We have every chance at winning this game. Go Vols!

Very overrated. Apparently no one looked at their entire body of work. But they will have improved as a good team does.

But to answer your question they are good enough that on paper they should win by 17 points.

They're a 9-10 win team. Damn near unbeatable in Norman under Stoops though.

Sounds like a 7-8 win team in the SEC.

That's what I think. Put them in the SEC West and they probably finish 8-4 or maybeeeeeeeeeee 9-3. That being said. I don't believe we have a realistic shot of beating them in Norman. On the other hand, though, if we get decent QB play and our lines grow up quickly we might stay within 14-17 points of them.

So UT has the QB advantage?

Not that there is anything wrong with it, but it is interesting to see that some VNers are still in the "want to believe" mode come every August. This same story played out with Oregon last year. It was "their D-line is small, we can manhandle them," and "we will out-physical them, they aren't that strong." It is always the same story: the top-10 team we are playing is overrated until we play them and they curb stomp us.

Granted, I think Butch has us going in the right direction talent-wise, but I think expecting us to be hyper-competitive in this game in Norman is a little optimistic. I would call losing something like 35-21 a sign of marked progress.

They have a lot of returning starters.

They rarely lose in Norman.

IMO, this game being early in the season is a problem for us. Gonna need some help (turnovers, penalties...etc) to win I think.

I said it last year with regards to Oregon and I'll say it this year for Oklahoma. THIS is the toughest game on our schedule this year. We have Alabama at home in Knoxville and we are very much more familiar with them.

I would say we have a better chance of beating Bama than beating Oklahoma at their place.

I am not expecting to be able to beat them this year. But I do expect to stay with them all game and maybe put a good scare into them.

When they come to our house.. we better be ready to whoop dat arse.

No question Okie is good, but its no secret Bama prolly didnt show up for that bowl game. That QB who never earned the job played a terrific game but overall had a mediocre season. So off one game they have been mentioned as a title contender and Heisman trophy sleeper. I dont get the hype off one game.

Serious question: does anybody think OK's QB would start here?

With the stable of QB's at UT right now, not a chance in hell. Seriously though, why even ask that question? Just for fun? Need some attention? WTH?
