Oskie, you're killing me. You're starting your responses with assumptions based on comments I didn't make. For example, I never said Dooley came in with a QB with SEC experience. He didn't. But I don't care about what he had. At the end of 3 years he was a colossal failure as the head coach of UT. This fact is inarguable. Again, 41% winning rate, 3 SEC wins in 3 years, 3 losing seasons, left a lot of holes regarding talent and depth, left a losing culture, lost national prestige, all of that.
I listed CBJs obstacles, all of which are legitimate, left from Dooleys regime, as a reason for why we should be patient with the team's record early on. That's all. This does not mean, as you say, that im saying Dooley didnt have obstacles too, cause he did, as I've freely admitted earlier.
And again, if CBJ runs his program as dismally and as unsuccessfully as Dooley did after 3 years as coach, he will get his own set of criticisms in the way that Dooley has gotten his. Book that! At least Butch has a record of winning which Dooley never did.
Honestly KB all I keep reading from u is a comparison of the 2 situations equally, and we will never agree on that pov. Is what it is. You throw around Dooley's 3 losing seasons as if he took UT over when it was on top and winning 9-10+ seasons per yr, and he brought it down. He didn't. As I'm sure u know UT hasnt won 7+ games since 07. Of course 5-6 winning seasons isnt acceptable in the long term but acting as if the situation we were in, which was a complete rebuild, was easy to get through is foolish. UT was on a downward spiral. Dooley slowed it down and was starting to bring it to a stop. He wasn't given enough time to see if his plan was going to work and start taking the program up. Sometimes IMO u need to take a step or 2 back to take strides forward in the long run. I, maybe not u, don't believe that 2.5 yrs is enough time to let a level of a plan that UT needed to workout. Just IMO though.
Also IMO the Gruden love fest hurt the season more than people want go give it credit. Who knows how some games would have gone if Hart would have nipped it in the bud early.
Btw - I'm not saying u are saying that Dooley had QBs or an sec roster. What I am saying is that u can't act like CBJ walked into a bad situation as its NO WHERE near what Dooley walked into and he was able to pull off 6 wins his first yr with a tough schedule. So if Dooley is such an idiot and a bafoon of a coach then CBJ has a line in the sand. Not saying he can't do it or bashing him, but talk is cheap and the line is set. That's all. Heres to hoping he meets and exceeds the challenge...:toast:
It's ultimately Dooleys job to get the best effort and attitude out of his team and his individual players. Bray did quit and was a bit of a head case but Dools shares in the responsibility for his poor performance.
Btw, you want to see how it's done? Ask Ainge about how Cutcliffe handled him and how he got him turned around when he returned as OC. Didnt coddle him, he busted up in his face, got his attention, demanded his best effort and got results. That's a coach !
R u really comparing the stability situation in 07 with what Dooley walked into??? Bray had no competition! Cutcliffe had a soph Crompton to keep ainge in check. Also ainge never came off as a pompous prick like swagalicious bray. Bray was the only horse Dooley had to ride, and bray took advantage of it. pt blank.
I've said it before....Dooley walked into a team that had been depleted and leaned out by Kiffin. So he had to rebuild everywhere. And then add on the ones Kiffin left that either left or needed to leave. With recruiting regulations like they are a coach can't rebuild a roster in a short period of time. They can't just hire and fire at will like a regular biz can. Takes time to have the pieces fall into place and 2.5 yrs simply isn't enough time.
