How has no one mentioned

Pat White and Tim Couch also had below average arm strength.

Our own Andy Kelly...Eric Zeier...Doug Johnson...etc etc etc.

All had better arms. Johnson? Dude was a third baseman in the minors while playing at UF. You don't play there with a noodle arm. You are getting worse at this.

I know you didn't just post a picture of Tom Brady and actually think you made a point. Perhaps you haven't seen Brady throw a deep ball the last decade or so. If you haven't, I'll help you out in saying that this isn't helping your argument, which, I'm not even sure what that is anymore.

You are now to the point of just randomly listing QBs with no rhyme or reason to the madness.

I have.

I also saw him try in '98 and '99.

Guess who he looked like?

You'll never guess...

Come on...

He played a great game. Incredibly accurate, and very hard to bring down in the pocket. There were a lot of plays that should have been sacks, but he kept the play alive.

Very accurate? Bubble screens and 5 yard passes should be completed. He threw two or three good passes beyond 10 yards. Good defenses will eat that short passing game up.

I was more impressed with him standing in under pressure, escaping the pocket and making the correct checks at the line. His arm is what it is. No turnovers. Biggest stat for him.

Yes, he's better than last year, but he was simply god awful then. He still can't throw an out route and one could see the noticeable difference in a QB with some zip when Peterson threw his one pass. Worley has to wind up to get some oomph behind the ball and that isn't happening against the meat of our schedule. I really wish Peterson could get it together mentally, because he has the physical tools needed to compete in the SEC.

I thought Worley definitely looked more confident, but I agree about Peterman's throw. It was noticeably different and highlighted the difference between what we saw in Worley (not taking away from his confidence/consistency that we saw last night that we definitely did not see last year) and what we could see in a more talented QB in the future.

plenty of people have said it, how have you not seen it is a better question.

Worley's play was thread-worthy. Terrific on short passes. Used the pocket well (did not panic). Didn't make any real mistakes that could have changed momentum. And I heard more than one positive comment from team mates related to his leadership before game and in the huddle. The timing on the long ball will improve.

Bray would have had 400 yards against this team tonight. Worley flicked a bunch of short passes. He has to wind up for anything of any appreciable distance.

Bray who? Oh, the guy who left UT before his senior year and was a basket case his entire time?

Don't live in the past.

Played better than I expected. My only 2 nitpicks with Worley are...

1.) He needs to keep the ball more. You can't be a read option team if there IS no option! I saw several times where UTU's defense completely sold out to the run and Worley could have easily pulled it down and gained big chunks.

2.) Worley's deep field passing accuracy is still not very good. Besides the pass to Croom in the 2nd half, Worley rarely hits anybody in stride. They're low, they're high, receivers have to squat to catch them or lay out to catch them. I want to see him improve his accuracy here.

Worley's not an SEC caliber QB, but apparently he's the best we've got, so for now it is what it is. I'm sure CBJ and staff are going to do everything they can to manage this offense around Worley. However recruiting is the only thing that's going to solve these problems.

I think this is pretty reasonable. Just to nitpick on your post lol, at least Worley was keeping it as compared to where he was last year. I'd say that might develop as we go along. The Vols weren't showing much last night so it does make one wonder if they are purposely holding back some threats in the arsenal.

But that dude is an ugly runner lol

As for his deep accuracy, I'll agree to an extent. I think he's got some serious power now and I'd much rather him overthrow receivers rather than having to make a receiver fight for it with a potential turnover. That's timing routes with the receivers that needs to be ironed out and I'm sure both he and the coaches will identify that and start work on it.

About him being an SEC caliber QB. I think that remains to be seen. For me, he came in at #3 in the Manning Academy which says a lot about his ability. And he's definitely not the same Worley we saw last year. He was calm, poised and his receivers were certainly helping out last night. He'll never break records, but I'll take a confident QB that makes smart decisions before picking what weapon in his arsenal he wants to use. And one that kept plays alive by moving out of the pocket and helping make plays by getting the ball down field.

It's early in the season and remember last year he was just starting to develop and get in sync when he was injured. Last night I thought was about where he was during the USCe game last year. And he can only move up.

He was bailed out by some amazing plays by Marquez North on jump balls against South Carolina. Without North, he doesn't even get 100 yards.

Perhaps you need to watch the replay of the game...

Worley played well, but he missed some deep passes that were open. If hits some if those in our big games, we will pull off some upsets and the national media will start taking notice.

Worley played very well last night. I'd take 11 more performances like that and not think twice! 27-38 for 273...All day, every day!

He's not PM.....Every QB will miss some of those.....as everyone's timing gets better the long balls will get better. He is what we have.

As long as the coaches find a way to make Worley serviceable enough to get UT through 6 wins, I'll be a fairly happy camper this year.

Exactly...and that is what our goal is. ......if not more.... We aren't going to win ten games. Worley is who we have....people need to get over the "deep-ball" BS and complaining about his arm. It is what it is.

Have you ever considered that we purposely did not reveal some of Worley's ability?- let the other teams think that all we do is dink and dunk to get smaller gains. I still thought all did a great job, and we played to our opponents weakness. We may see something entirely different next week. Remember all of the young players that we have - the coaches are wanting to take baby steps to insure that they develop without encountering any confidence-destroying roadblocks. Speaking of confidence- how about Medley- after the one missed field goal ( which was due to snap and ball placement anyway) come back and boom in the next kick. Great " snap and clear" LOL!

I'm just happy he tucked it and ran a few times. Last year that was a sack, this year 8 yards.

Seriously, would it bother anyone if Worley dinked and dunked all season if it led us to a bowl game?

He's not going to be able to make a living off of it. Other teams will start scheming us for that. Worley can't be that one dimensional all season. He's going to have to develop a more accurate deep ball, and when I say deep ball I'm not talking about 40 yard bombs. I'm talking about the 20 yard slants and out routes. Also, he needs to sack up, pull that ball down, and carry it more. He left huge chunks of yardage on the field all night long because UTU was selling out to stop the run. Like I said before, what's the point of running the read option if you can't keep the defense honest by keeping the ball once in a while? UTU knew Hurd was getting the ball when he came into the game. They were keying on him and Hurd could never get anywhere because no one was biting on the QB.

He played great. That being said, there were several plays he had open receivers downfield (as in wide open), but was looking at the pressure instead of standing in the pocket. I'd like to see him connect on a few of those

Worley? The guy played really, really good. Smart decisions and pretty accurate. Looked twice as good as last yr when the ball was in the dirt half the time. If he plays like that the rest of the yr, we will be alright.

He played great, just wish he could hit the deep ball; I'm not sure if that's on him or the receivers but against better competition we have to execute those throws to open up the field.

EXACTLY! The dink-dunk stuff is OK for now but when we start playing SEC teams, we won't be able to make a living on it. We'll have to start opening it up more.
