How Tennessee can beat Georgia

Need to see continued major offensive improvement specifically in the passing game before i can see a path to us winning.

Kirby's defense shuts this offense down pretty much every year and it being on the road this year doesn't bode confidence.

We will probably need a defensive touchdown or 2 to have a shot to win but i think the defense will ensure its a close low scoring game regardless.

I am getting tired with writing off their game at Georgia. Tired of Georgia fans as well. I want to see the meltdown if Tennessee happens to win this game.

There was another team that had been dominant and looked a lot like this Georgia team. Just two years prior, people have stated they had the best team in College Football. That team was Miami. In 2003, Tennessee traveled to Miami and beat them in an ugly, sloppy defensive battle 10-6. I think how we played Miami in 2003 might be our best bet on how to beat Georgia this year.

Carson Beck threw 3 INTs and the passing game struggled against Texas. Tennessee needs to have Georgia do that, have their defense control the game, and the offense just be serviceable enough to not make mistakes and score once or twice.

Is it possibly, yes? Tennessee did it in 2003. Can we do it again?
I know most everyone seems to prefer the2022 Vols to this year's team, and they were definitely more exciting to watch. I'm not so sure this team isn't built better to take down Georgia, though, particularly if Nico can hit a few open receivers for explosive plays.

Georgia may be the first team to eclipse 20 points on our defense. Hell, they may be the only team to do it. But...in the end. It will have to be our offense that wins it.

There in lays the question. Can our offense rise up to the challenge?

Absolutely.. They'll have to block UGA's Dline. It comes down to that really.

The biggest thing is that our offense line must be disciplined and not jump when Georgia does all their shifting. We tend to shoot ourselves in the foot too much when on the road and fall behind the sticks.

I don't think there's any question that this team is better equipped to win tough road games against top teams like Georgia, if for no other reason the depth we have in so many areas, especially on the defensive line. The entire defense is worlds better, and defense travels.

The 2022 team 'shock and awed' their way to wins, but with the run game and defense we have, this group is comfortable in grind-it-out street fights. If Nico continues to progress and can deliver 2-3 big plays a game and convert 3rd downs, UT is going to be a team that no one will want to face in a playoff situation.

Let's worry about our next opponent first. We all (most of us) looked past Arky. One game at a time. That being said, we'll have to play a very mistake free game to beat Georgia when it comes around. Offense AND defense...plus special teams.

Here we go again. Lose at Arkansas: the sky is falling and we should fire the staff because Heupel’s not the guy. Beat Alabama: we’re the best team in the country and will beat Georgia by three TDs.

As much as I love the Vols, we aren’t winning in Athens. We’re not on that level yet. We need to win the other four and hope 10-2 is enough to get us into the playoffs. I think it will be.

Well it’s certainly true that TN’s defense is playing very good ball so far, extremely improved over last season. I disagree with you about GA’s defense bc I think we are just starting to get a picture of a healthy GA defense. But time will tell. I guess it’s possible that the Texas O-line was just vastly overrated, but I’m a Dawg so I’m leaning toward thinking that our defense is starting to take form. We will know much more in time, I will say that Nico being a mobile QB is absolutely a plus for you guys.

If your defense like our offense has not been playing up to it's full potential then it'll be a very close game where home field might make the difference. Guess we'll just have to see whose fugazi and who isn't between our offense and your defense.

Again, not trying to be a downer here, but watch the film breakdown on how UGA stuffed Texas's O. The UGA defense has freak athletes all over the field, and play super disciplined. They just dismantled Texas from the first snap. The first half against Bama is a bigger and bigger outlier by the game.

Not saying it is impossible, but we will need arguably the greatest offensive performance of the year to even get fieldgoals. Back and their WRs have had some issues so we could see another 7-0 or 10-0 game going into the half, but I doubt we score a lot in this one, if at all.

These next 3 weeks are critical as the offense needs every practice and game snap to get out of this funk. Need the second half O to show up for 60 minutes.
Watch Miss State move the ball on them. Watch them look like a high school offense vs Kentucky. They're good but they don't seem to be what they were a couple years ago.

I agree, could be a very interesting game

2003 Miami isn’t on the level of UGA right now. Sorry. 2001? Sure. The only way I see is beating UGA is if they just implode. They have been our kryptonite ever since Heupel got here. And with the way our passing game has struggled? You cannot be one dimensional and beat UGA. Right now that’s what we are.

Unless the passing game improves dramatically, it will be another multiple TD loss.
It won't be any one phase of the game that determines the winner. It will be which team is physically tougher and mentally stronger. Georgia exposed Texas to a "Bloody Tuesday" type of deal. And their soft asses were not ready. I can't wait to see us walk out there and strike it up with them. UT v UGA will be about manhood. Not no damned x's & o's. This will be pride. Who wants it more. Georgia has already proven that they can hit that gear. We get a chance to November 16th.

I think 2024 Georgia could be the best team in the nation (still hard to tell) but they don't look as good as 2022 Georgia.

Not saying I agree or disagree but we haven’t given up more than 17 points all season, so it wouldn’t surprise me if 20 points wins this game for the Vols. Kentucky, Auburn, and Texas defended them pretty well and we have a better defense than all those teams.
I feel like Georgia is getting better as the season goes on. That 1/2 of the AL game was a fluke. If they played Alabama four more times, they would beat the brakes off them every time. Our offense better come up between now and then. If we play Georgia this weekend, I don't think we win. Give us two or three more weeks, Nico might settle in.

Does it appear to you that Kirby has some issues getting his guys up for games other than the 'big ones'? The UGa in Texas was night and day from MSU and UK, where they appeared to sleepwalk their way through those games. Or are they a bit more vulnerable as they appear to some of us?
I think UK played great complimentary football and shortened the game: they stayed committed to the run and limited UGA’s possessions. A combo of solid D and mistakes by UGA meant UGA didn’t score. It was the OL’s worst game by a wide margin—credit there to UK.

MSU went yolo in the second half. Much like Bama, it connected on 50/50 passes at a high rate. UGA didn’t play bad defense in the sense of blowing coverage or making mistakes, but the other team really made some great plays. UGA schemes to make teams have to hit long passes down the sidelines into small windows, basically challenging them to say “if you can hit these consistently, you’ll win—but at the risk of pressure and interceptions and short drives if you can’t.”

I think the MSU final score is closer than the game. When UGA went up 17, it put in the subs. MSU marched down the field against them to close it to 10, but the game was over. Those subs are going to have to be ready soon. There were definitely some busts earlier in the game, but those got straightened out.

Don’t know if UGA stays in a local Athens hotel for home games like the Vols do in Knoxville on Friday nights.
But, if they do, we have people call all of their rooms at 3am and play Rocky Top.

Hammer beck and shut down their mediocre run game
UGA doesn’t run for as many yards as UT, but don’t get caught looking at totals. On a per rush basis, UGA and UT are basically even in conference play. I think Sampson is the better back, but UGA can absolutely gash a team that is soft on the edge or gets caught too far upfield.

I think I've used this analogy before but right now we're a great pitching team that's struggling at the plate against even decent teams. This defense is legit and has the ability to keep us in games as long as there's at least some help from the offense. Against good teams however I just don't see how we can maintain our current passing woes and expect wins. I think we're like 70th in passing yards per game. That needs to improve. Even if it's just taking advantage of a few of these big plays we've all seen left on the field.

I see you watch espn
Just judging by what I've seen them do. Also our biggest bragging point is no one has scored 20 on us. Until Georgia no one had scored 14 on Texas.

We have a great defense but you can't say that Georgia hasn't seen anything like our defense.

According to Fan Duel, Georgia is a 9.5-point favorite over Tennessee. The over/under is currently set at 53.5 points. The Bulldogs being the home team certainly plays a role in this and Georgia has not lost a home game since 2019 against South Carolina

13 by kickoff. And Id take uga, that place is loud as Neyland (They do amplify, and Nico is a Freshman) PLus their DLINE will eat.

Beck with 8 INTs so far this season, I could see us with 1 pick 6 but 2 may be too much to hope for
