How Tennessee can beat Georgia

Go back and look at since Kirby has been coach. They have beat us with 1 and maybe 2 TD,s by throwing to the tight-ends in the Red zone. I posted this last year and got comment's asking me how long I'd been coaching and other suggestions hide and watch.

Georgia ain’t unbeatable! They have had their moments and so has their QB.
Agreed, any team or player can have a terrible game. Just like any team or player can have a great game or just have everything go their way. It’s true that GA has more depth of talent for now but it’s not that drastic. Upsets happen all the time in CFB. Look at the talent difference between Vandy and Bama. Our teams talent discrepancy doesn’t even remotely compare to that!

We have absolutely had trouble at times keeping contain this season, and if you guys can exploit that it could be trouble for us. Honestly, if TN can consistently have success in the run game it could be huge. And honestly I think this factor works both ways this game

Does it appear to you that Kirby has some issues getting his guys up for games other than the 'big ones'? The UGa in Texas was night and day from MSU and UK, where they appeared to sleepwalk their way through those games. Or are they a bit more vulnerable as they appear to some of us?

Our offense needs 30 points to win. This Georgia team is beatable. If they come out flat, we can get on top. Make them play catch-up. I don't see them running it down our throats. We will lose if our secondary can't duplicate the Alabama efforts.
Nico absolutely cannot come out flat. We also can't let them sack him causing fumbles and interceptions.

Not saying I agree or disagree but we haven’t given up more than 17 points all season, so it wouldn’t surprise me if 20 points wins this game for the Vols. Kentucky, Auburn, and Texas defended them pretty well and we have a better defense than all those teams.

I am getting tired with writing off their game at Georgia. Tired of Georgia fans as well. I want to see the meltdown if Tennessee happens to win this game.

There was another team that had been dominant and looked a lot like this Georgia team. Just two years prior, people have stated they had the best team in College Football. That team was Miami. In 2003, Tennessee traveled to Miami and beat them in an ugly, sloppy defensive battle 10-6. I think how we played Miami in 2003 might be our best bet on how to beat Georgia this year.

Carson Beck threw 3 INTs and the passing game struggled against Texas. Tennessee needs to have Georgia do that, have their defense control the game, and the offense just be serviceable enough to not make mistakes and score once or twice.

Is it possibly, yes? Tennessee did it in 2003. Can we do it again?

We honestly don't know just yet how much Texas was overrated vs Georgia really playing well. I would venture to say it's somewhere in the middle. Bama beat UGA, so we can too but it certainly won't be easy.

I’m of the opinion that your last sentence is a bit of a stretch, but I do think that both teams at their best could make for a very competitive game. I do however applaud your confidence, and I hope we see us both at our best.

Just think of it this way. Thus far this year our defense has been way better than Georgia's defense. Now imagine if Nico and the offense plays up to their full potential. Do you think Beck and the Georgia offense can match that? I think not. At our full potential we can outplay anyone.

We start out by beating Kentucky and then Miss State and then worry about UGA. I feel strongly that looking forward to FL is what got us beat at Arkansas. The game at UGA is gonna come down to which team exorcises their demons first.

UT's passing game has gone into hibernation since SEC play started. We are slow coming out of the gates which is super weird for this offense. We saw signs of Nico starting to find a groove. Squirrel getting healthy will play a large role in that as He is one of the targets Nico has the most chemistry with. We have had half a squirrel the last 2 games. If we can get healthy over this bye and stay healthy we are ina good spot for a run.

Carson Becks arm has been passed by a demon of some sort. He's thrown 5 ints the last 2 games and some ugly ones at that. Hopefully Florida and Ole Miss can keep that streak going but not win. If we beat UGA we want to beat an 8-1 top 3 ranked UGA that's our resume building game.

Oklahoma and NC state sucking arse is killing our SoS. If you'd told me that coming into this season Vandy would be in the top 3 or 4 opponents we face I'd have laughed at you. At this point in the season that would be true though. Kind of a crazy season so we have to take it one week at a time. In 4 weeks will lwe get the Georgia that struggled against UK and Miss State and lost to Bama. Or the one that beat the snot out of Texas and Clemson? The one thing I can say is UGA has played its best games against teams whose primary color is orange so far (Texas, Clemson, Auburn)

Vols can beat any team left on the schedule simply by playing well. And that doesn’t mean perfect.

On the flip side, Vols can lose to nearly every team on the schedule by playing poorly.

They have a more experienced QB than us and more depth on the OL. We are better everywhere else. I suspect a W, but if y’all want to lose sleep worrying about this gave for the next 3 weeks, you do you 🙂

But we have a more talented QB.

That could be an issue I suppose, but I honestly think it has been more of a case of our defensive front getting handled in those games and also our inability to run the football. We got very little pressure on MSU and our secondary suffered bc of it. Both Bama and KY were able to run the ball down our throats. KY rushed for over 170 on us and Milroe gained over 100 yards on the ground by himself and also torched our secondary for 370+ passing. When we’ve struggled it’s been primarily bc our defensive front has gotten pushed around and/or we’ve gotten very little pressure on an opposing QB.

Much is due to bad luck with injuries on the D-Line, but like I posted earlier we have absolutely had trouble containing the edges at times and just blatant poor tackling. Our front played so poor against Bama that Milroe looked like a lock for the heisman! Some of it could be due to lack of preparedness, but honestly most of it was just getting pushed around up front.

I’m sure some of it was due to lack of being able to have a strong d-line rotation. Big guys wear down when they play enough snaps, and a strong run game can make hay, especially with a good mobile QB.

Honestly, they play one every day in practice. I think we can win but we absolutely need some turnovers, hopefully Beck will be in a giving mood, like Saturday, instead of the mood he was in last year in Neyland Stadium.
Our defense is way better than Georgia's. We're what Georgia and Alabama used to be on defense.

Heart says GBO Vols by 50.

Head says we are going to get thrashed.

Kirby can scheme and he has athletes at every position. Unless we switch jerseys with Bama for one game to catch UGA in their jinx against them, we are going to get ran out of Athens like we usually do. Beck threw 3 INTa against Texas and they won by 15.

Don’t label me as a negavol for saying this, but I doubt Heupel beats Kirby in his career. Not at least until we have years of top 10 recruiting classes worth of depth. I would love to be wrong but this has multiple TD loss written all over it.
No way. Nobody has been able to score a lot of points on our defense. Our defense is elite. This will be a low-scoring close game either way.

Well it’s certainly true that TN’s defense is playing very good ball so far, extremely improved over last season. I disagree with you about GA’s defense bc I think we are just starting to get a picture of a healthy GA defense. But time will tell. I guess it’s possible that the Texas O-line was just vastly overrated, but I’m a Dawg so I’m leaning toward thinking that our defense is starting to take form. We will know much more in time, I will say that Nico being a mobile QB is absolutely a plus for you guys.

I don’t take wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State for granted. Here is my formula:

1. The offense needs to click in the next two games. Specifically, that will entail eliminating the first possession turnovers we have seen the last two games. Scoring at least 10-14 points in the first half. Better accuracy from Nico and better separation from our WRs. Better play from our tackles.

2. Great improvement in the area of pre-snap penalties in road games. Most teams struggle in this area. However, we have been really bad in this area - starting too many drives 1st and 15.

3. UGA DEs are elite. Those guys have to avoid game changing holding calls.

4. Win the turnover battle.

5. Get an early lead BUT not go into a shell to protect a small lead.

6. Play a complete game - both halves and in all three phases of the game.

The short of it is our offense must play better, and we have to cut out the penalties.

"As good" I agree, "way better" is delusional. Did you not watch the TEX-UGA game? They are going to give our OL fits.
They gave up 41 to Bama and 31 to Mississippi State. It’s more irrational to say the above poster is delusional than it is to say we are way better.

Playing Alabama on the road versus playing them at home is night and day. Georgia has played 2 other top 20 offenses and held them to 3 and 15 respectively, so 3 Top 20 offenses played total, none played in Athens. We've played 1 Top 20 offense to their 3 and gave up 17 at home. "Way better" is asinine based on that sample size. They can bring it when dialed in and healthy.

It will be the same deal as 2 years ago, that snap count. Georgia's defensive line got a really good jump last time and screwed up everything we were trying to do. You got to change up something there because they're going to do the same thing in 3 weeks. Couldn't block them last time.

Nico is going to have to be on and accurate. Our receivers can beat GA deep. O line is going to have to give him time and open holes for Sampson. A successful running game will take pressure off the passing game.

Our defense is going to have to consistently pressure Beck. He makes bad decisions and throws when he is hurried. He is not very mobile and holds the ball a long time. If we get 5-6 sacks there’s a good chance we win the game.
