How utterly surprising (not): John Adams predicts another 5-7 season.

8-4
Of course we beat Austin Peay, WK, South Alabama
in SEC play we beat Auburn, Candy, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina.

You, Sir, are on the money. :toast:

Everyone forgets the year Butchs' Cincy team was picked to finish fourth in the conference..... they won the championship.

It's game week and everyone seems to be getting all weak kneed and trying to grow a uterus.

GROW SOME BALLS AND HAVE FAITH IN YOUR VOLS!!!

I stopped reading John Adams articles a long time ago. I suggest a boycott. Don't even click on his online articles. Maybe KNS will get the message. I do not want him to be a homer, but I have grown tired of his negativity.

I understand as fans we want to hear good news, but come on, we've been terrible for a while now. I don't think he'd have any cred if he writes we're going to win 10+ every year.

We have a good coach for the first time in a long time. Is he a great coach? Only time will answer, but he's got the resources to make it and we'd be glad to enjoy the ride. I expect to see better and harder play which I hope leads to more wins than loses this year, yet I'm 100% positive we'll be better soon with Butch. Enjoy the transformation Vol fans, we're going on trip up the ladder.

Contrast with Mike Strange's "It's Not Year Zero" column from a few days ago.

We haven't won a bowl game since the Bush Presidency. What is a journalist supposed to ignore that fact for the sake of positivity?

What do you know, we found another profession where you get paid to guess without fear of losing your job.

I just thought it was Meteorologists and NFL Draft Experts, guess I was wrong.

Nope, 8-4. See how easy that was? Anyone can pull a prediction out of their anus that's based on absolutely nothing.

This makes no sense. You've said it twice and it's not getting any closer to being sensible.

I said I do not want him to be a homer, but I am tired of every article he writes being negative. Surely there is something positive about UT that he could write about. He and Climer need to retire or just go away. I refuse to read anything either one writes.

If Butch Jones is the coach everyone here thinks he is, 5-7 simply isn't acceptable, nor should it be. There's still a lot of talent left on this roster to be conceding every game but the tomato cans.

South Carolina is a surefire loss? Georgia? We'll lose most of the games against the better teams on the schedule, but the only games that look unwinnable to me are Alabama, Oregon and maybe florida.

I hope we're not about to be subjected to another 3 years of excuses, the same way most of you bent over backwards for a hack like Derek Dooley. If Jones is the man, he'll win some he isn't supposed to.

'tis hardly surprising, given his track record. However, if you ever wanted proof that John Adams has a deep abiding disdain for Tennessee football, here it is: he predicts a fourth consecutive 5-7 season. See John Adams: Butch Jones hasn't had enough time to change UT's losing ways » GoVolsXtra. Here's hoping that he has enough crow to choke on for a week's worth of dining at the end of the season.
5-7 is much more likely than 10-2 with upsets of Oregon, Georgia, and Bama. I'm leaning toward 6-6 myself.

I don't think 5-7 is out of the realm of possibility, even though I'm thinking 6-6 thanks to Vandy's penchant for rape. We need to get real - this team is not good.
I don't think Adams has total disdain for UT, but he does for Fulmer. He covered up all of Lane's practice shenanigans; we learned from ESPN (not the Sentinel) about him showing past Southern Compton players; the whole USC chanting crap, etc. I don't trust Adams one bit after that, but don't slam him for predicting 5-7. Just keep it real, write this year off, and hope for better next year.

Write this year off? Never.

You guys do remember that this is the same team that would have lost to Troy last year if we didn't have the dynamic trio of Patterson, Hunter and Bray right?

Now those guys are gone.

The future is bright and nobody can deny that given how well recruiting is going, but sometimes there is just so much coaching you can do given the talent available.

I am a huge Butch Jones supporter and believer, but I understand that this is a 5-7 or 6-6 type of year. If a QB emerges to be better than average then I think we could finish better, but that has to happen first.

5-7 or 6-6 will be our record. If its not I will no longer post on VN. No joke.

I wish you hadn't stated this.

You are going to have to register under a new name and start all over.

We will win 7+ games this year

We were in a position to win vs South Carolina, Georgia, and Missouri last season. I think we'll have better coaching and a 7 and 5 record.

it all comes down to the two things it has the last couple of years.

1. can tennessee pull an upset early.

2. if tennessee doesn't pull an upset early, how much of the team will be disheartened and not put forth the same effort in november making winnable games loseable?

i do find it humorous that some people, yet again, look at games on the schedule like they are no problem when tennessee has not provided any evidence that any game is "no problem"

until proven otherwise, auburn, vanderbilt, missouri and yes, even kentucky are not gimmies. the last 3 games played at kentucky resulted in a loss and the other two contests went to overtime.

it's not just a derek dooley thing. games against opponents like these have been competitive and could have gone either way for several years now.

So 7-5 and you're outta here?😊 Come on Bone... hang in there with us. Great things are on the horizon for UT football.

Until we lose a game,I will predict we go undefeated. I wish someone would shoot that Adams guy with a Tennessee mountain rifle. He's a Bammer fan and deserves it. Keep y'all's heads up,my Volunteer brethren! We are still TENNESSEE! The greatest damn state in the damn Union! I'm up North right now,and I've never been so proud to be a Tennessean. Nor have I missed my home this much before. Yankeeland is worse than Bama,BY FAR! Be proud to be a Tennessean and from Dixie! GO damn VOLS!
