How will Urban Meyer's situation affect recruiting?? (merged)

Florida will still have good class. This will definitely have some guys looking around though. I'd say Meyer might go ahead and leave anyway. He is clearly having some thoughts about his future and its likely not coaching the gators. There are certain things you can say and do in life that leave you with little option to correct, this might be one of those times for Meyer.

Meyer is only hurting himself be causing all this drama.. It was very noble of him to step down with grace in the beginning, but to come back and cause a circus will hurt Florida.

Do you think Addazio will just sit and be Meyer's caretaker for however long and just hand it over to Meyer peacfully? Ego will play a huge role here and it will effect the Gators.

He is now the head coach, But what does that mean, Can he change the things he want's changed, or does he have Meyer over his head saying " No, Do that this way?"

The Florida Gators are now the Miami Heat of College Football and as I've said before I don't expect to work as planned like Meyer and Foley think.

The only viable scenario that it could possibly work is if Meyer comes back for next season, which basically means we were all excited about nothing and Meyer just used this to get in the media and show furthermore that he is a family man.. ( Mark Richt anyone?)

A lot of damage was done to the recuriting base after Urbie's announcement....this AM the news shows that a recovery plan is being patched together. No matter what course Urbie takes, the official line to recruits is that he is the coach and will be the coach at Fla.

Meyer's absence won't be long - CFB News - FOX Sports on MSN

I think these young kids being recruited by Fla are going to rethink their futures in light of the roller coaster situation there, and certainly some will jump ship.

I think CUM stays with UF until the Thirsday after NSD as to lock in all the recruits. I think his timing scared alot of recruits who based their decision on their relationship with him and not just UF. Once these players sign they are locked in. If they decide to go somewhere after that they will have to sit out a year unless the NCAA grants them a hardship, which is very unlikely. I would say that UF is quietly looking for a new coach until then. The OC this year was awful running that offense so I can not imagine the school wants him as a head coach. It would be interesting to see who they get but keeping it quiet will be key until they know for sure. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Mike Shannahan come in as coach. He was mentioned at first but every thinks he was going back to the NFL, but yesterday turned down two NFL teams that were interested. He was once a assistant at UF I belive.

Anything can happen but I do belive that UF is in damage control mode right now. and I also belive that CUM will not be there next year.

After his about-face on Sunday, he gave every indication he would be on the sideline when the Gators open the 2010 season.

"I do in my gut believe that will happen," he said.

Your last paragraph hits the nail on the head. Meyer will be back next season which means this was all for nothing.

Either way you look at it the situation was handled poorly. I think there is a lot of truth to tidewarriors comments. I think Urban is genuine in respect to having some health problems, those have been documented over his career. The timing was very poor and him changing the status of his employment with UF to leave of absence was most likely at the request of the AD so as not to damage the incoming recruiting class. Whether or not these recruits will see through this or not remains to be seen.

this is just my OPINION, he wont come back. that press conference was strictly for recruiting because we all know that those recruits lives were turned upside down. at the end of his press conference (not during his opening statement) he said he thinks he will be back next year, if he truly thought that why wouldnt he say it in the opening?
this is just my opinion, but it was strictly to show these recruits that he will be back, when in reality he wont

the only thing that is for sure, is the Vols are gonna beat them next year :)

Part of me wonders if Thamel's article was a set up for this particular situation. Given the timing and the relationship to Urban it is not to hard to connect those dots, and I'm not a tin foil hat kind of guy.

So that he can have another nervous breakdown next year? How does that work?

This is strictly an attempt to save the current recruiting class. If CUM really believes that he can be a HC without stress & health issues, he is delusional.

I believe that he has legitimate health problems that he needs to take care of before he starts coaching again.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if he did end up at another school in a couple years.

A gator fan on CUM's effect:

It won't (in fact, the one hour pro-Gator infomercial will end up helping).

Urban won't miss a game, we won't lose a recruit. Nothing to see here ... move along.
LOL!:D

Channing Fugate, Matt Milton, and Tyler Bray are all EE's

Matt Simms and Kenbrell Thompkins have Signed their LOI's

Thanks, but what about non-committed players or players committed to other schools that have opened it up (Matt Elam and Robert Clark)?

Just wondering if there are other possible EE's at UT.

If im right Corey Miller, Jacquez Smith, Brandon Willis, and Chaz Green could enroll after their all-star game.

I have to say that I think he is only doing this until NSD and then he will officially step down. I think the powers at be at FL got scared when he did this so close to February and asked him to re-make a different statement.

Urbie will be coaching from the sideline with an IV in his arm to keep from dehydrating.

He'll probaby coach from the box like he's GOD. I hope they loose big, and all the recruits like Powell, Elam, Clark, Riggs etc see through his BS and go elsewhere.

Why does everyone assume that the recent "leave of absence" talk by Meyer is a facade? For better or worse for him, I think he will be back coaching at Florida sooner rather than later. To be honest, I wouldn't have it any other way. I want the Vols to beat him almost as badly as I want them to beat the Gators as a whole.
