How will Urban Meyer's situation affect recruiting?? (merged)

Oh, they can't afford an off recruiting year as much as you might imagine. They're even more likely to have JR's leave early now.

1) I hope Meyer gets well soon with whatever his health problem(s) is
2) Do you think we can steal their RB coach, which would in turn help us recruit their players
3) I see 3-6 UF commitments switching to us

that's quite a bit

If UF loses commits to UM, USF, and FSU then it helps UT even if UT gets none of them.

This is really Christmas I feel like tiny tim in the christmas carole!!! This going to be a huge recruiting class!!!!!

This will be a turning point with FSU, if they land Elam, and maybe some more of UF's commits. Our future looks brighter in the SEC east also.

AS MUCH AS I LOVE TO HATE THE MORON GATORS ITS SAD TO HEAR OF MEYER HAVING HEART PROBLEMS. WE WOULD HAVE PASSED EM ANYWAY. HE IS NOT THE CALIBER OF COACH THAT KIFFIN IS. THE KIFFINS AND THE ORGERONS ARE A WINNING COMBO. TREEDOGVOL:cool:

This will be great for Tennessee I just hate to see its due to medical problems I hope he will be ok he's a great coach and I give credit where credit is earned but I'm a Gator hater till I die

I won't pretend to be unhappy about the effects on UF but I wouldn't wish that kind of problem on anyone... even Meyer.

That said, the timing really hurts UF. Any reasonable replacement search will take weeks. Maybe it had been going on privately for awhile but if not they're going to suffer at someone's hands in this year's recruiting. Strong would have given them someone to hold it together at least for awhile. Unless the replacement is Mullen... the current staff doesn't even know if they'll have jobs or not.

UF will still be an attractive choice for a lot of FL kids but the organization and strength of their effort will almost certainly be damaged.

Agree... if it hasn't gone on privately, the Gators are screwed this year in recruiting. They either have their guy or they don't. We'll know soon.

In the meantime, any UF EE's who know the Vols want you should contact your hostess immediately! :p

Merry Christmas to all God Bless everyone!!!!! I wished we'd beat em though!!!! I think Kiffin gave him at least two ulcers

Does anyone think the timing was to help save recruiting? It is the dead period and he is staying in a non-coaching role.

"Meyer has been to the hospital at least twice since suffering chest pains after the SEC title game, a Florida source told ESPN. He has been diagnosed with a heart valve muscle defect, the source said.

The problem is not life threatening, a Florida source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The same source said Meyer will remain in Gainesville in a non-coaching role to be defined later."

That sounds like UF is screwed. What highly sought after recruit is going to play for an Urban Meyer who sits in an office somewhere?

They either have their guy or they're screwed.

When I opened this thread to see what kind of joke this was, it was only 3 or 4 pages long...Whew, I finally made it to the end.

I would just like to say that I know how everyone must be feeling about how this will help Tennessee's recruiting, but I would like to add my voice to those who say that is sad to see someone leaving for potentially major health reasons. I hope that he can take time off and get his health back. Good luck to him.:hi:

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I think elam is fsu now not us. I do not want riggs, he is too short.

It helps us because their juniors should leave now unless they get gruden. A hot hire at uf will be worse for us than if meyer stayed.

What's the difference in his height and Nickell Robey's? Everybody seems to want Robey. And Riggs is rated higher.

How will effect recruits looking at Florida?

I think it is sad day for all football fans. Love him or hate him, he was 2nd to none in the coaching ranks. I hope his issues are not life threatening. Recruits are one thing, but peoples lives are more important.

Riggs is just short and skinny in person. I have not seen Robey. I am really excited about chaz green. I would love ian silberman to be a part of our class and torrian wilson.

Lache seastrunk would be great but seems like wishful thinking and I would not be sad about mack brown at RB.

I just think we will be helped more by florida juniors leaving and guys bolting the class for fsu than by adding their guys to our class.

The Riggs info came from Duron Carter's twitter and Florida's scout site.

The Riggs info was not on the florida scout site. Here is the quote from Duron Carter

"now my nigga cody bout 2 decommit for the gators!!!!! 5 star in the market again... O State were u at?"

I still believe he is committed to the gators but I am not positive for how long unless we act quickly.
