Hubbs and Lewis on Pearl's Future

Well, the actual facts are that the tournament went to 48 teams in 1980, 53 teams in 1983, 64 teams in 1985, 65 teams in 2001, and 68 teams in 2011. Since you only want to compare coaches against Pearl that were not successful and don't want to consider any of Mears' tenure as coach, you are obviously correct that Pearl is the greatest coach in your comparison criteria of any in history.
Because you want to ignore what i said and dodge questions that lend validity to my argument we will probably have to agree to disagree.

I would love to see some validity from you.

You know what I have to agree with you. I have done a horrible job explaining why fans are unsure of firing Pearl to the lack of success since the mid-Devoe years. Since I do not know how to explain myself I will use a quote from one of our more experienced posters here on volnation.

"Hat, I truly enjoy your information regarding recruiting efforts. However, I don't understand your gloom and doom over our recruiting. We are a national player now; perhaps for the first time in our history. Even if you don't like or agree with Pearl and his system, give him credit for making basketball significant again for Vol fans. I have total confidence in this staff and their recruiting efforts. We may never be able to recruit with the North Carolina's and Kentucky's of this world, but we can recruit capable players that will allow us to compete with any program on a consistent basis."

Any idea who this poster is? I highlight the parts where the poster stresses the points that I have been so poorly at explaining. Again sorry for the poor explaination of my point

The fact is Pearl has done a terrible job and should immediately be replaced. 20+ wins and three East championships, as well as a record 31 win season is simply unacceptable at UT. It is exactly the same situation we faced with Fulmer. Let's go after a coach who can have some success in the program and recruit only 5 star players--hopefully all one and done, so we can have a new roster each year.

And another....

Hat wants perfection in the basketball program---something few can achieve. At least we are now going to the tournament and I, for one, can live with 20+ wins each year. We'll finally exceed the sweet 16 and just occasionally sign a 5 star player who is better that average.

And another.....

Hat is a significant contributor to this board even if he isn't realistic about the UT program. He has great insight into recruiting and offers much to those of us who like to try to keep up with those efforts. He's entitled to dislike Pearl---this is America. He does know basketball, but seems intent on bashing Pearl instead of offering helpful insight into our basketball efforts. Keep up the good work Hat! Perhaps if we exceed the sweet 16 this season, you'll give Pearl just a little credit. This recruiting class could still turn out to be exceptional---no great point guard, but hopefully some other players that can contribute to the program

But to go on with this would simply be piling on, which I disapprove of. So I will leave you with the validity that you asked for. Just realized I let the mystery poster out of the bag. My fault!

As soon as I get back to the house and out of my fiftieth meeting today, you're off to Ignore Land. Don't worry.

You pretending Pearl was the only coach to have the slightest bit of success here was too good to pass up.

Lord yes I remember all the teams Devoe had with all the
28 to 35 win teams. lmao

Ouch!! :lolabove:

No one knows what it will be like if we get another coach success wise. What most people remember tho is what tn basketball was like for 2 decades before bruce. And before i get slammed i do remember the success of coach devoe.

As with any change you always know what you are losing, but, not what you will get.

I would agree that keeping things civil is his only asset. As for your comments, I could care less what you think.

He at least brings civility to the table. You bring nothing to the table. You take stuff off the table. You are unquestionably a failure at posting, and more than likely also a failure at life.

Boom, roasted.

Thanks for digging that up.

Good job being civil...

Why surprised? No need to apologize. Differences of opinion is what makes this board interesting. You are entitled to your opinion, as every other poster is also.

Tifwiw! Im no insider but my mothers 2nd grade school teacher(dont laugh im serious) has attended almost every lady vols games the last 20+ years and is a personal friend of CPS, and she told my mother that CBP wont resign a contract and will be asked to step down following the season.also the big time basketball supporters have stopped giving money and the mens team has been using lady vol funds to keep up the mens program. I find it hard to believe, but just in case there is some truth to this I wanted everyone to know it.

I, for one, wasn’t always his staunchest supporter, but I do admire and respect his accomplishments and contributions to UT basketball. He had really started to grow on me, but alas, I just don’t think it’s meant to be. I believe it will be tough for UTAD MH to retain his prized hire beyond the ’10-’11 season. Let’s face it, in all honesty, it could be what’s in the best interests of all parties involved. In all honesty, MH needs to pray to all which is holy that Derek Dooley turns out to be the savior of UT football. Even then it may not be enough to save his own job either. Regardless of feelings toward CBP, lets all take a moment to appreciate a truly historic era in the annals of Volunteer basketball. CBP has taken the program to new heights in a short time... And whoever our next coach may be, the task-at-hand of a slight rebuild--really more of a tune up really--will be a much less daunting task than what CBP was staring at when he took the job.
