Huge Recruiting News- The 28 Limit

This best part is the coaches will make it work. Saban and Co did the same thing last year. UT's coaches have a plan that will benefit the program. No matter who you add at this point it is still a great class.

Quick question that's a little off topic, but no need to start a new thread: Do early enrollees have an earlier signing day or do they wait and sign with everyone else after they've already been on campus for a month? Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.

I also just saw a new change that will probably go into effect for 2010-2011 recruiting.

Proposal No. 2009-47, sponsored by the Big East, would prohibit institutions from offering football prospects written offers of financial aid or offers of potential aid before August 1 of the recruit’s senior year in high school. The proposal aims to ease the confusion for prospects who might view written scholarship offers during the junior year as binding agreements. Recruits cannot sign a National Letter of Intent, which is a binding agreement, until their senior year.

Also they look to not allow schools to send any type of media or recruiting guide to players or their families. It will be interesting over the next several months as the NCAA looks to make some major changes with regards to recruiting.

Ok on Volquest they say we can only get 27. I thought we could get 31. Does anyone know the exact amount???

28 because we can backcount 3.

Do not know where this 27 number is coming from.

We can only backcount 2. 30 is the max we can sign, but we can comfortably sign 27. Thing is, one or two always miss qualifying, but we can always backcount next year. If the coaches have 30 guys that are surefire players though, they will take them all and not look back. The numbers will work out.

Remember guys, we can ONLY get 27 total in school and that is back counting 2 (Montori Hughes is not listed by Rivals for last years class which makes 23 signees). We may sign a couple more guys in case something happens to someone with grades or something, but don't look for 30. I think it will be more like 28 at the max 29.

What about transfers out of UT...i.e. Eric Gordon (not confirmed but I know he is unhappy) or people that leave the program not happy. I imagine some are being forced out by the staff.

and players leaving early for the NFL (Berry)?

Would that gives us goodness in next year's class?

I disagree. We sign 30...

My understanding is we can sign 30 but only hand out 27 scholarships to bring in for school. So if we sign 30 guys...how is that going to work?

3 guys will be placed in JUCO or Prep, or they can be greyshirted. There will be a few guys who won't be able to make it through clearinghouse anyways, so I expect it all to work out fine...

IMO we will be VERY lucky to have 27 new bodies on campus next year...

This staff, IMO, doesn't want to get into the business of sending prospects to PREP or JUCO. They need guys that can make it to campus and contribute now. Maybe 4-5 years down the line when they get things really rolling, they can do that. Pete Carrol doesn't do that, and IMO neither will Kiffin. Kiffin is Carrol's mini-me, and that's cool with me.

Do you know who these "3" are likely to be? Other than possibly Broussard. I understand that every commit doesn't make it to school...happens all the time...but to bank on 3 (if we get the max commits) not making it in seems like a sketchy situation.

I doubt UT will sign the max they can or give out 27 scholarships. If they bring in 27 players on scholarships they will have 50 players spots tied up in two classes, which means they can only bring in 35 over the next two classes for 2011 and 2012 because of the 85 max on the roster. I think UT has their eyes set on some pretty big players in 2011 class already so they might go to for a big class there also. I would be surprised if UT takes more than 25 for scholarship spots this year unless they are some big players left on the board or ones that look to be an issue academically to sign. If they only take 25 that would give them a few spots to backcount for on the 2011 class.

Remember when you grayshirt a player they will have to count towards next years class unless UT can backcount them. If UT signs 30 players, 25 will come in for 2010 class, 2 will be backcounted to the 2009 class, and lets say the 3 will be grayshirted. Those 3 will count towards the 2011 class when they enroll early. That only leaves you room for 32 players to recruit combined for the 2011 and 2012 class.

The only reason UA grayshirted 3 players this year is because we could only add 22 players to the 2009 class because that maxed us out at 85. All 3 will be backcounted to the 2009 class since we have 3 spots left on the roster for 2009.

Well we sign the max and bring in 27 players. Doesn't matter right now that 50 players would be freshman and sophomores.

Not all 50 of those players will be with the team come their senior year and we need the talent now.

How do juco players fit into the 85 system? We have G.williams and laimason who will be gone counting towards the 2011 class...and the three juco guys we have coming in this year should free up 3 spots for the 2012 class....right? so wouldnt that be 40 schollys for '11 and '12 combine...if we hand out 27 schollys this year?

tidewarrior forgot to factor in graduation. We'll have plenty of scholly's available for future classes. If we need to, we'll find a way to free up space for someone we really want.

I am not forgetting graduation.

Signing
2009 class has 23 players
2010 class lets say 27 players(2 BC to 2009 class)
2011 class 25 players
75 player total for 3 signing
classes

Seaon
2010 season will have 50 players on the roster that are frshman and sophmores
2011 season will 75 players on the roster that will be freshman, sophmore, and juniors.

No matter how you do the math the team can only sign 10 for the 2012 class. You will have no room to backcount any players. This does not count any seniors that graduate that year, only the juniors, sophmores, and freshman. That would also assume that the team would only have left 10 seniors from this year sophmore class, which by the way the sophmore class currently has 21 players in it. So I guess over the next years 11 of those players would either have to leave early for the NFL or get kicked off the team to sign more in the 2012 class.

Also remember a player that leaves the team after June 1st for whatever reason their spot can not be back counted into. A spot on the roster may open towards the 85 but once 25 players are assigned to a new class there can be no spots to fill back into that class.

I have a question. I remember a Bama recruit saying he wouldnt sign a LOI because he was going to bama on a academic scholly.
My question is If I had a 4.0 and was asked to play at UT. I am a die hard UT fan and say yes. But I walk on instead of signing a LOI or accepting athletic money does that count towards the 85??

* he was a a recruit in the '09 class. I believe a Db
