Hurricane Florence

For people that loose everything, it's a storm of a lifetime regardless of category. It's not over when the storm ends either. Seeing your life's possessions stacked at the street for the garbage man leaves a lasting impression. One year later, people here in Houston are still trying to get back in their homes.

I live in Charlotte...you are saying about twice as much as what they are calling for here

You are right, Windy. They revised it waaay down. Looks like 5 to 8 inches of rain and 45 to 50mph winds. Wont be bad at all as long as they are correct this time.

My aunt and uncle lived in Wilmington when Hugo came. They evacuated and came to stay with us in Charlotte. It missed Wilmington, never weakened before hittkng Charlotte, and wrecked us LOL. I was out of school and electricity for 2 weeks.

I agree about the "storm of a lifetime" sensationalism..its what media does.

That said, if this storm stalls at the coast as much as they are forecasting, and Wilmington, carolina beach, everything between north myrtle and the middle of the NC coast sees 24 to 40 inches of rain...it will be a once in a lifetime storm for all those folks. Near 100% devastation...federal aid needed to rebuild all the infrastructure. Those flatlands cant handle that much water...in addition to 13 foot storm surge projected to come waaaay up the sounds and rivers. Millions of people will lose everything they own, and thats terrible. Prayers for those east of us...here we are likely to just lose power for a couple days and maybe see minor flooding.

I was born and raised in Charleston. We stayed put for Hugo and slept in the Hallway. I'm actually glad we stayed put just to be able to see the devastation immediately afterwards. I remember us as a family riding on bikes from one neighborhood to the next, just looking at everything. Those images will never leave my mind, but also has me prepared for now and in the future.

Walking around at lunch, a little breezy here. A couple restaurants taking inside their patio furniture and then I see this...😄MVIMG_20180913_133446.jpg

Update:

The Hurricane is now a Category 1 with maximum sustained winds of 90mph. The weird thing is that the pressure isn't going up, so it's still packing a serious punch.
