Hurricane Harvey

I don't want to thread drift, but there isn't enough PBR in the world to make the Fort Sam mattresses any prettier.

At least you had enough sense to journey to the other side.

:good!:

Just got upgraded to a CAT 4 hurricane. First of that magnitude to make landfall since 2004.

I saw that sometime after I made that post. Crazy!

The other unprecedented thing with this hurricane is that models are showing it will hit land and then loop back around on itself basically sitting there for days rather than making landfall and continuing inland.

Sounds kind of like what Tropical Storm Alberto did in 1994. It headed inland and stalled, dropping all its rain and winds right there in Alabama, Georgia and the Panhandle of Florida.

The storm itself wasn't a big deal, but the aftermath was bad.

Unprecedented. Happened so quickly too. Residents didn't have a lot of warning, as most hurricanes form well out at sea and are tracked for over a week at times.

A train of tornado-warned storms set up near us last night so didn't get as much sleep as I would have like given all the warnings. But no issues. A couple of neighborhoods over caught one with a quite a bit of damage. Just some localized flooding right now. Sitting in a dry slot this morning but expect the next band to catch us in a few hours.

Pray for these folks. Spent several months in Rockport and Corpus, lot of good people there. It appears Rockport is devastated.

They just showed Rockport High School and Middle School on The Weather Channel with significant damage.

I used to go to a lake up there somewhere near NB when I was at Fort Sam - it had a beach. We'd take the Lackland air mattresses up there and drink PBR until they were pretty. What's that lake called, was it a park?

Canyon Lake? There's a MWR place up there.

Typically how many PBRs did it take? I'm trying to figure out if you'd be embarrassed if someone you knew saw you with them in public.

I've been through several storms and floods here in Houston but never seen anything like this. I've been checking on my employees this morning. Several lost everything last night. One of my department heads was sobbing as he watched his belongings float away.

This is a Biblical type event right now. Pray for us.

Hey TT, everything still going okay for you?

Yes - still holding well here. We have had multiple training bands move over us but none have stalled for too long yet. The one that stalled over east Houston last night moved over us in about 2 hours - much better than what that area got. A lot of tornado warned storms have moved over us but no damage here. Flooding streets but nothing significant. So doing pretty well here.

The news just showed areas with 50+" inches predicted!

Yes. As of noon today rainfall totals on average were 20" plus. Predicted to have 40" plus this time Tuesday.

The concern is with Harvey's projected path. Currently, they project the path heading back to the coastal area around Victoria, pulling more moisture and gaining some intensity before turning north. After the turn, current projections bring it right over Harris county (Houston and surrounding areas).

The rain and flooding is enough, but there are multiple tornado warnings mixed in literally every 30 mins to 1 hour.
