So far, I see TennTraditions, BigOrangeJeff and TXBO in the Houston area. TT and TXBO have checked in, anyone hear from BOJ in other media?

Anyone else know of VN folks in that vicinity that might be under threat?

BOJ is in the grill and bbq thread alot. Last post was 2:47am yesterday.

You should go correct a poster in the Harvey thread in the Pub.

The 30% figure sounds like an off-hand ballpark estimate. We'll have to wait for the numbers to come in and for scientists to conduct attribution analyses before we can say how much climate change may be blamed. But it is safe to say that climate change is a component. Ocean warming is a reason the gulf of mexico is so hot right now. Atmospheric warming means the storm can hold more moisture. Sea level rise (over 2 feet in Galveston) is contributing to the storm surge.

Harvey stalling probably has nothing to do with climate change. I don't know. But there is an increasing body of research that suggests climate change is affecting the jet stream due to the differential heating between high latitudes and low latitudes (a phenomenon known as arctic amplification, which climate scientists predicted decades ago). Stuck, loopy jet streams have resulted in prolonged droughts and storms such as the Texas/Oklahoma flooding in 2015. Sam's article notes that Houston has experienced 4 100-year floods since 2015. Maybe it's a coincidence, but that sounds like climate change.

Anyway, that's all I'll say about that here. Prayers to those affected by this disaster.

I'm still dry but 100 yards any direction from me is flooded. Never seen devistation like this in my life. 100's of 1000's of people without a home tonight.

Nobody is safe yet. We're in the 1st quarter of the game still.

Love how liberals never miss an opportunity to use a tragedy for political expediency.

20+ inches in our neighborhood in the past 48 hours, and we still have 72 hours until the Tropical Storm Warning expires. I'm in a relatively high-lying area, so we're pretty fortunate. Still dry and still have power. Storm track keeps shifting east, though. Right now, they have the eye coming right at our town.

Thanks for your concern.

They just said on Fox News that Harvey will come back out to water Tuesday and then make landfall again in Houston Wednesday before moving on.

Those two High pressures stalling it can't move soon enough.

Last few times I've checked the models have it starting to move out by the end of the week which is an improvement

Good grief, it's bad enough getting hit once, but twice?

Biggest improvements tonight are 1) Dry air wrapping in from the west and 2) A forecast that puts Houston on the. Lean side of the storm.

Unless the storm exhausts the dry air or fights it off as it gets over give water, that could be huge. I can tell from the structure that I'd be eating a 2-3 inch an hour training band right now if it weren't for the dry air coming in. Instead, just patchy rain right now.

But still picked up 6 inches over a few hours earlier tonight. That puts us over 20 inches since Fri night. Not sure exactly how much. Bayous are beginning to back up around here but still dry!

The radar has it looking like Houston is either catching a big break at the moment or they're actually in the clear. The heavy rainband moved east.

Weather channel showing 100% chance of rain through Wednesday night. Thursday still showing 90%.
