Hurricane Harvey

I'm sitting in the middle of about a 4 mile circle of an island.
I don't intend to make light of things with this suggestion but something similar happened to friends of mine during the Nashville flood. Once they and their neighbors lost power and realized that they were on an island, everyone opened up their freezers and they had a giant bbq. Guess it was all going to rot anyway.

Anyone worried about gators? I know they have the gatorfest in Anahuac. I don't know if there are enough of them in the area for that to be a concern.

Yea. Especially surrounding Anahuac. We've already seen Gators, snakes, fish etc. as soon as it stops raining the mosquitos will take over. Mosquitos in Texas are big enough to stand flat footed and screw a turkey. :)

Humor is the best way to deal with it at this point.

Same situation for me. Still safe and dry, but this storm cannot get east fast enough. Some surrounding areas are starting to evacuate, including some very close friends. Considering myself very fortunate.

Oh, and there's this from downtown Houston:

Lmao, atleast you still have your humor.

Im stealing that by the way. :)

I pray she is safe. Really nowhere to go. Just have to stay put and wait for rescue by boat. Impossible to drive to safety.

Yes sir! Glad to hear.

Right now we are seeing the very best of Texas humanity. It's amazing the number of people willing to risk their lives to help others. We are also seeing the worst of humanity. Yesterday looters tried to rob the volunteers of the Cajun Navy out rescuing people. We know how to handle those scum bags too.

Good grief, that makes me sick to my stomach.

Right now 5 of my employees are sitting on their roofs waiting for rescue.

Baytown. We're getting hammered right now. People went to bed in dry homes and were awakened by wet mattresses.

Yes I've been watching that on the local news. Definitely hammered. The cities east (south and north) still have a ways to go and draining water will be hard given winds blowing up the ship channel.

Definitely.

I saw a video on imgur of guys catching catfish in their living room. That's one way to look on the bright side I guess.

What is making it worse is they are still having to release water from the reservoirs so it is further flooding homes and neighborhoods.

Dang.

That's a lot of water but it doesn't reflect the major differences between the two. So far, Katrina was far more devastating. And, I certainly am not trying to down play what Texas is going through right now. I can't imagine being in such a situation.
