Hurricane Harvey

West Houston, so not too close to landfall unless the western high pressure ridge really gets to steering tomorrow. This storm will have two periods. Saturday will be a wind and surge event for mid-Coast around Port Lavaca and north to Sargent. If forecasts hold, this alone will be a massive impact though not huge population centers. Then phase 2 starts on Sunday through ?. Depending on how slow he drifts and how he is steered, the inland flooding could be extreme. That's the primary threat for me. Forecast right now is about 16" rain for my area. But those post-landfall forecasts are highly uncertain.

Hey man. Long time, no see. :hi: I hope you are safe.

I am in the DFW area and I have a lot of Facebook friends that I grew up with that are really bad at geography. They have expressed concern for my safety. Yeah, we _might_ get some showers associated with the storm, but maybe not.

Haha. Yeah I've heard similar stories from a few friends in Dallas.

Good to see you Vader.

So far, I see TennTraditions, BigOrangeJeff and TXBO in the Houston area. TT and TXBO have checked in, anyone hear from BOJ in other media?

Anyone else know of VN folks in that vicinity that might be under threat?

Is that Dinkin Flicka poster down that way ?

Wow it's Vader...talk about a blast from the past. ☺

I'm not sure where that would come from for Houston. The Brazos River still had about 10 ft to go around that time - but Houston won't see that.

Looks like the Brazos levee's are breaching.

A levee along the Brazos River south of Houston breached on Tuesday due to heavy rains from Tropical Storm Harvey, forcing officials to call for residents to evacuate low-lying areas.

Matt Sebesta, the chief administrator of Brazoria County, urged residents of the Columbia Lakes neighborhood to leave. "They need to get out. Get to higher ground in Angleton," the county seat, he said in a televised interview.

Columbia Lakes is about 50 miles from Houston, close to the Brazos River. The Houston area's rivers have started to flood. Harris County officials earlier on Tuesday warned residents of six northern Houston neighborhoods to evacuate around two water reservoirs that had started overflowing.

Baytown. We're getting hammered right now. People went to bed in dry homes and were awakened by wet mattresses.

My aunt in Anahuac sent word last night that she probably would not be able to keep the water from coming into the house, although it was still a few inches shy. I don't think she planned to leave though.

You still in the dry txbo?

Yes. Thank you. I don't know how long though. No way into or out of Baytown and water rising. I'll be one of the last to flood. It just depends on how much more rain we get and how much water they keep dumping into San Jacinto river.

How close is it to you?

Anyone worried about gators? I know they have the gatorfest in Anahuac. I don't know if there are enough of them in the area for that to be a concern.

I pray she is safe. Really nowhere to go. Just have to stay put and wait for rescue by boat. Impossible to drive to safety.

She has a pretty tall barn (for that part of the country) with a nice loft and a couple of generators. I think she has a boat as well. Country folks can survive although we still worry about her.
