Hurricane Irma

Ft Myers looks like a bomb went off here. Huge trees snapped like tooth picks. Few have power, just got service power and internet service at the office today since we're near downtown, could be weeks at my house. As bad as it is we're lucky since it could have been soo much worse.

79, cleaning up.

By 1pm I was sitting in my pool smoking a cigar and drinking some beers..listening to the sound of the chainsaws going non stop in the neighborhood.

Felt guilty..

for about a minute.

Glad to hear you made it through.

Thanks man, I don't want to do this again.

It's going to take a long, long time to clean this mess up.

I'm guessing two weeks to get power back at the casa - had a big pine tree come down on my power line that subsequently landed on my neighbors metal roofed pool house and burn it down.

Only damage I had was to my pool cage and to a bunch of trees

Whoa!

For a storm that wasn't the Armageddon predicted, she sure has come at a cost.

Assuming that most people don't have a generator for hvac and dehumidifiers, can you go two or more weeks down there without developing mold?

Where abouts are you at?

Parents were out in Buckingham area, got hit pretty good. Probably will be out of power at least a week.

I'm in Gateway and made it home yesterday. Massive trees down all over the roads. Had to drive through some ditches just to make it home, but miraculously have power.

No damage at my place, had to cut the parents pool cage screens last minute. Thought we could save it but that last hour it started to go so figured better the screen than the cage.

Glad you made it out alright. I hear they have power downtown? You heard that?

Couple pics snapped while out Monday checking out the neighborhood.

First one was a neighbor of my parents. Lost their aluminum structure, some cars, and had 2' of water in their house from the surge.

Last picture was driving into my bosses neighborhood. About 2-3' of water across the roadway in places. Inland flooding was worse than I originally thought.

Edit: not sure why they posted sideways, oh well

It's also amazing to me how many people did not prepare at all.

People at Publix the day after the storm complaining that they aren't open because they don't have any food or water left (about 12 hours after the storm passed). No foresight whatsoever that they might want to eat if have some water after the storm when the city is shut down.

Saw in the online Telegraph that the cherry trees took a whoopin'. I'd hate to have one of those giant pines near Ingleside and Pionono fall on my house.

My church is at Vineville and Pierce/Pio Mono. Several monster pines feel across Pierce. It's just a complete mess around here.

Fun pic from the local paper

We're down to about 25% without power now. Couple of surrounding cities for hit worse. In laws in ft Myers were told the 23rd for their power to be restored

Also, school is out until next Tuesday. Wonderful

Pains me to even look at that. Up here, they're telling people up to a week to get power back. Can't imagine what it's like down there.

It really sucks for people who live on an isolated lot, like not in a neighborhood. The more houses you're around the higher you go on the priority list.

I live on the river side of McGregor across from whiskey creek. My office building is downtown and can confirm that it has power, got it this morning. Whiskey Creek is getting power back tonight but it's going to be a while before they get all of the river side folks.

Publix downtown was full of minorities just sitting in the aisles enjoying the A/C. More outside with cellphones charging on power strips plugged into the Publix outlet. Surreal.

Experienced the same thing today. We prepared but thought I might swing by Publix, hearing they were open, to maybe grab a sandwich or something.

Felt like a scene out of a war zone. Target was the same way, smell was awful from all the rotting food.

Side note, nice area over there. Had several friends who grew up in Whiskey Creek, how was the flooding?

Good to hear you're okay, man. It's crazy to talk about being lucky in the midst of all that damage, but I get it. Hope you get power at home a lot sooner than you expect.

There was a guy on the news tonight who decided to go look at a fallen tree in the road. Another tree fell on him and broke his leg. He then proceeded to ***** about the city not pruning the trees. How about stay in your f ing house with 50mph winds?

I could use some. Ha
