I can tell you nobody in Destin, Fort Walton and PCola left. Winds up to 140 this morning with a little more intensification left. Could possibly see a Cat 5 make landfall. This will be a devastating storm. Looks like it took a wobble West before turning ME.

I live in the Panhandle...I'm worried, I should have left.

They had two families from here on the news last night. One was in PCB and had packed up to head home. One was in Destin and was preparing to ride it out. People like that make me wish you could reach into your tv and shake them. Why risk your family’s lives because you’re salty a hurricane messed up your fall break?
And they'll be the first ones squalling for help to come save them when the **** hits the fan.

Waffle House is closed! EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY
That is a bad sign. When the Ocmulgee flooded in 1994, the Waffle House was the only restaurant open in downtown Macon for a while. How they did it without running water I haven't a clue. Some things are better left mysteries.

Ryan Maue is a good twitter account to follow for hurricane coverage/analysis. The guy who runs TropicalTidbits.com also does good video analysis on his site.

Opal wasn’t a Cat 4 at landfall. This one will be

No, we got lucky and it weakened right before landfall. Still, Opal was a fast moving storm that gained strength quickly on its track.

Let's hope it loses strength like Opal did after landfall.

Storms that form in that area of the gulf tend to strengthen quickly.

They’re saying it will still be a hurricane over central Georgia. And a tropical storm well after.

Our place is on the Cape , not that far out past the stump hole. A neighbor told me that they have removed some of the boulders protecting the road, in order to move equipment for the beach restoration, which was to start yesterday. They were preparing to pump sand from the ocean floor, and spread it from the stump hole out to Billy Rish State Park.

The plan is to widen the beach to a couple hundred feet. It is getting pretty narrow in some places due to erosion. The road may get destroyed without the rock wall, and there will be no way out onto the Cape. Hopefully, they get it shored up before tomorrow.

I can't imagine what is going to happen there. Our place was near St. Joseph State Park and my folks rode out Ivan there. Although it was a glancing blow if I remember correctly, it still washed out the stump hole and they had no way off the cape for a week. It's going to be worse if they have removed some of the boulders. The cape will be cut off for at least two weeks for auto traffic. Seems like they do the sand dredging about every 10 years or so.

I live in Charlotte and have relatives in Eastern NC that are still dealing with flooding from Florence. But Florence didn't come ashore with 140-150 mph sustained winds. Florence just sat and spun and dumped rain. It's moving so fast too that we are supposed to get tropical storm force winds and 3-6 inches of more rain as well as tornadoes. Possibly 8+ inches on the coast of NC.

This thing is going to leave a trail of destruction from the panhandle to the outer banks. That's some power.

Bro please.

This pairs nicely with any monogram window decal or Vineyard Vines sticker.
Is this similar to the Ducks Unlimited stickers that everyone in williamson county used to slap in their SUVs back in the 90s?

FEMA uses their emergency prep as a barometer for impact. If they close, it’s getting real.

I'm picking Mexico Beach for landfall.

A friend of mine retired to Mexico Beach, that's where he and his wife live...Hope it doesn't get bad....
I see that sustained winds are up to 145, and seas could be up to 13 ft high with landfall...

Where are you? Check in when you can.
Unfortunately, I live in the PC area, a little area within PC called Lynn Haven, to be exact...I have two school aged kids, and even though we're not technically in one of the designated flood zones, I'm still freaking out.

This one seemingly snuck up on us. Florence was in the Atlantic as a hurricane for something like 10 days before it made landfall, and the media talked about it non-stop. This thing has only been at hurricane strength for 2 days, and formed much closer to shore than Florence did.
