Hurricane Michael

That's impossible. Katrina was as bad as it was because a levee system failed in a metro area with over a million people.

Harvey (Houston) and Katrina (NOLA) are tied as the costliest. This one is every bit as powerful, if not more so, but won't do as much financial damage because it's far more rural area.

Going to be some major inland damage. massive beach erosion from PC east through Big Bend but you are correct the flooding of Katrina will not be the issue here.

Weather channel said the video out of Mexico Beach looks like a blizzard, all you can see is white...

Yes. This won't be as bad not because it isn't as powerful of a hurricane, but because of where it is hitting.

Katrina was a powerful hurricane, but not unbelievably so, when it made landfall. It weakened to a Category 3 before making landfall. Where it hit was what made it so bad, something people had been worried about for years.

the inland damage (wind) is going to be like a wide track tornado from this one.

That's a hell of a lot better situation than what water can do. People get way too preoccupied with max wind speed in a hurricane, the media fixates on that, etc. Water where you don't want it to be is far more destructive.

Don’t think Destin is that bad. Have a buddy that lives there and he is saying the weather stations are sensationalizing the hell out of this.

Getting reports from people at our complex - doesn't seem too bad. (Miramar Beach - between Destin and San Destin)

In fairness, Destin is about as far from the eye of the storm as Chattanooga is from Farragut.
Yeah. It does look pretty bad right where it is making landfall, but they are sensationalizing as usual even in Panama City, which is much closer to the eye than Destin. Destin is about 60 miles as the crow flies from the landfall point.

Agree but places that wouldn't flood are still going to take tornado like damage. The beach homes/buildings are pretty well fortified for wind damage - not so much all the regular homes throughout northern FL, s. Alabama and Georgia

The local stations or TWC? TWC hasn’t mentioned Destin that I’ve heard, likely because they are a bit away from the eye on the west side.

Agreed. The storm will be hurricane force far inland.

And furthermore, the same places impacted by Florence's flooding in SC and NC are going to get another large dosage of rainfall.

I completely missed the Brett Adair live cam. I hope that gets posted somewhere for later viewing.

on Fox they are doing a drive along from Destin heading east on 98 - just passing through San Destin - looks fine. Not sure what kind of beach erosion they got but looks like that area was pretty well spared.
