Hurricane Michael

Speak for yourself, I've gotten some pretty nasty tremors out here.

As for the answer to the no earthquakes, I'd prefer (knowing now what I know and knowing how to be prepared and being prepared) going through one Cat 4 rather than five tornado seasons.

That's got to be a tough choice. A Hurricane OR a tornado can mess your life up for years. I don't know if there is a winner in that one for me.

As far as earthquakes vs. Hurricane... I think i would take the hurricane. Earthquakes just scare the bejesus out of me. It comes without warning and it feels like the apocalypse. I would never get used to that feeling of the ground moving under my feet.

Earthquakes for me. I have been saying since I moved to Miami a few months ago I prefer living in earthquake country rather than hurricane country. Hurricanes freak me out much more than shakers.

Wow, some wind gusts still over 110mph
pretty amazing what the wind forecasts are even into south and central GA. Just saw a model where it's supposed to blow 50 here in about 3 hrs which is crazy as far inland as I am.

About to become the first Cat 1 hurricane to pass within 50 miles of the center of GA since the 1800s.

I'm not too optimistic about our place on Cape San Blas surviving this. I can't find out anything because the road is closed going out there, and the people I contacted in Port St Joe don't know anything. Now, I can't even get a text to go through to them. I was able to earlier.

I just heard some news about Cape San Blas. Not good at all.

Cape is cut off at the stump hole of course. But it is the worst they've ever seen it. 12-14 foot storm surge went all the way through the cape into the bay and then into Port st. Joe. Have seen several tweets that people are saying the cape is simply not there anymore. :(

Hopefully when the waters recede there will be something to go back to.

Oh, and supposedly the dunes are obliterated.

If it makes it you’re hosting the PF party.

I'm holding out hope for you 72
Thanks. My wife is devastated, and I'm not far from it. We bought it 10 months ago, and have been remodeling ever since. The only vacations we have had there have been working vacations.

Last trip I painted inside and stained the deck. We have stripped off all the old cedar siding and rotted wood, and replaced with new, and replaced a lot of the decking. Also, had a retaining wall built to make more parking room. All new "hurricane proof" glass and doors. Installed hurricane straps while siding was off which tied the roof to the wall studs, wall studs to floor, and floor to pilings. We did everything to current standards, but I still doubt that it could take that kind of hit. Maybe we'll get lucky.

Due to my job, I may be working 16+ hour days for the foreseeable future. That said, if I can be of assistance, let me know. I live -the way a crow flies- about 80 miles from the Mexico Beach/Cape area. I watched it roll in from the EOC last night, up until I left at 6:00 AM today. Truly heartbreaking.

I didn’t feel the need to leave from our location, but with having a young child, we took no chances and checked out to Orange Beach shortly before landfall. Other than some broken small limbs/palm fronds and a few inches of rain (at most), we were practically spared entirely, but I’m also 30 miles inland.

Prayers for you, your wife and all affected. Please, let me know if you need anything. We can catch up in private and fine tune the details, if needed.
