Hyatt opts out of Orange bowl - headed to NFL

He said stop opt-out. You can't do that. Sorry if that's hard to follow.

He even clarified that he meant paying them as employees to reduce opting out. You’re completely right that Hyatt has the right to make his own decision. You bringing slavery and the 13th into it is creating a ping pong match between you and the other guy you’re arguing with. I’m bouncing my head back and forth trying to keep up with who is more ridiculous.

I'm just pissed off that the season will probably end in a shytty way getting kicked in the teeth in Miami because Tennessee has no offense left.
Neither team likely will give a crap to be there. Both teams have little to nothing to play for. Keyton, Bru, Squirrel all of those guys are good enough to win if Milton can get them the ball. Nothing has changed this game still relies on Milton and the defense actually playing up to ability.

I know you’re thinking this is some huge bowl game but to both teams this is a let down, this game could literally be decided by the team that is the least hungover.

13th covers all involuntary employment, including indentured servitude. Paying an employee does not stop them from quitting.

Calm down, ma'am. So far two players have opted out. Both expected to be drafted, one in the first round and the other sill getting over a lingering injury.

That's a world away from players not caring about the outcome of the Bowl game they earned though several months of hard work and sacrifice.

I think you can understand the decision, but also be upset that he is quitting on his team before the biggest post season game we've played in over 15 years.

Why would you be upset over someone bettering themselves? Do you get mad at coworkers when they leave for a better opportunity?

All I on the thread for Alex Golesh was nothing but gratulatory posts. Didn't he quit on this team?

The minute you risk millions of dollars to play a meaningless game, may be your opinion will matter.

AGAIN. If they were paid by the game as employees then losing that game check may cut some of it out which is the point he’s making.

The bowl game is still going to be played. If Hyatt lessens your entertainment value, then don’t watch. Players representing the University of Tennessee will be on the field. I am happy for what Hooker, Hyatt, Tilman have done for the team and I will be supporting whoever is on the field wearing the Tennessee uniform.
If I were on the team, I would support the personal decisions my teammates made and if they decided not to play, I would fully support them and fully support their replacement.

Yes it is a business but it is also a game that many of us played when younger and it is entertaining to watch. I think many have lost the sense that it is a game and it is more about pride for them. Bottom line except for some silly pride does it really matter if we win or lose or if Bama is ranked ahead of us? Are you going to be so mad if we lose that you are going to beat your spouse or yell at your kids or kick your dog? The really sad part is that there are some fans that are so invested and do act that way.

It’s happened before. Happened at Tennessee before even. Sometimes bowl games are a let down. Again you can say whatever you want I’ll put it like LWS did in another thread sometimes the bowl games mean more to fans than to the players.

I have zero doubt if this were a playoff game every player on that field would bust their ass but it just isn’t.

AGAIN, they're going to be paid millions in the NFL. Wouldn't matter.

But for $hits-and-gilggles, under this master plan, which you're the one laying out, not him, would this be just for the Bowl game? Would it be set amounts or negotiated? Would the amount vary by the bowl game, or would the Orange Bowl and VistCleveland.com Bowl pay out equally? For every player or just those threatening to opt out....because guess what the unintended consequence of that is?

Whether his suggestion would be work is a completely separate story. As soon as I stop laughing at you over the invocation of the 13th I’ll give it more consideration. Right now I can’t take you seriously.

OK cool, GBO

I've come to the conclusion there are some people that have a remarkable capacity to posit their whimsical desires (maybe having a football team have a better chance of winning a game) supersede the actual life choices made by someone else helping ensure the future well being of themselves and their family. It's an odd thing to observe.
