Hyatt opts out of Orange bowl - headed to NFL

Fellas, this isn't high school or little league where we teach teamwork and perseverance. Jalin has passed all those tests. He is an elite college athlete about to make coin, help his family, and hopefully begin a long and lucrative career. The NFL is a business. This was the only logical decision he could make.

Be mad if you want, but watch this highlight reel, take a moment, and then decide if Jalin hasn't given his all for the program and his team.

Seriously some of the dumbest crap I've had the displeasure of reading. I'm not even gonna attempt to apply logic to any of that drivel. The best I can tell is that you are of the "everyone gets a trophy" mindset. Or at the very least never competed in any organized sport. Ever.

lol you simply don’t have good comprehension skills.

Where in the world would you derive any of that from?

Sounds like you the one wanting the trophy. You watch Tennessee, you “invest”…..now players aren’t playing and your all butt hurt.

You have done absolutely NOTHING. Those guys have actually given to the program.

It's called commitment and if it's nothing more than a glorified scrimmage then what's the point of playing? By your logic, there really is no reason for any of us to watch and every senior or underclassman that has the chance to play in the NFL should just opt-out and stay at home.

Don’t watch the game. Go to Kmart if you don’t like the product on the field.

We had a good year, but we're still early in rebuilding UT . If Hyatt goes out there and gets a knee blown out or broken bone, not only does it possibly destroy his opportunity to set him and his family for life, it's one less drafted player that Tennessee has to pitch to recruits in the coming years. I'm relieved that he opted out . If we play well enough to beat Clemson with Hyatt, we probably play well enough to beat them without him.

You don't really know what I have or have not given now do you? You're just making assumptions. Believe it or not, there are a few that actually post here that have "given their all" so be careful of what you assume. I can guarantee you that there are a few here that will tell you that every game matters. It's why the game is played. They are all meaningful and when they aren't is when the game stops being played.

Good for him. Things like his success will always be more meaningful than playing in the Orange Bowl.

I hope dude has a great career in the NFL.

I know a few post here. I don’t know if any who have questioned the character of a kid that every teammate and coaching staff that has been with him this past year has told him to go pro. Tillman and Hyatt have earned that.

Like it or not this bowl game is about next year’s team. It’s the start of next year instead of the conclusion of this one.

There are too many grown ass adults who think they're actually part of the team.

I get it, we're fans, without us nobody shows up, blah blah blah blah. That's all great, but.....we're still not on the team.

Reminds me of Tool or Metallica superfans.

Yes to the ones that play they are meaningful……I have stated as much.

However I know you haven’t given you all to Tennessee by what you have stated on here.

No one……..literally NO ONE who had played would EVER attack another players character in Hyatt’s situation. He had given on this team for 3 years. He finally blew up, first Biletnikoff award winner, with a huge opportunity ahead of him. He also literally gave every single player on his team part of his NIL deal, before leaving……..and you talk about character……really?

So in this case I don’t need to “be careful.” Not saying you have done anything wrong, or that you don’t have character………just stating you wouldn’t have went there had you been a former player and you certainly would be much more understanding (because you would know exactly what they are all going through).

Wish him the best. It sucks for us fans but most anyone in his shoes would choose the same. We'll be fine, next man up..

I care so there's that. These kids make a commitment to the University to compete and they should have to follow through with it. This opting-out BS is just that BS. If you have a problem with that then as you put it "get over it".
yawn.

Should "have" to follow through? Who's going to make them play? You wanna haul them to Miami in a paddwagon?

Hyatt (and a few others) are about to see huge paydays. That would be nuts to play in this game. You would probably agree if you were the kid's father. They're making the choice for them.... IMO, it's the prudent choice. But my opinion doesn't matter. And neither does your's.

Average rookie contract for the 2nd round is over a million/year for 4 years (rookie deal) before signing and other bonuses and you're in the freaking NFL if you make it.

My guess is none of us ever put on a jersey and didn't think the absolute dream come true was making the league. If you get the shot, you take the shot ASAP..... very few even get the shot.

The league minimum is 570k. So a million isn't much more on top of that, even for a 4 year contract. But If you are in the top half of the first round you are likely to get 3-5 mil a year for 4 years. The difference could be 10-15 mil in contract value.

Now of course the real money comes in for the 2nd contract, so he will get a year head start on that if he proves himself at the next level. But, some guys never make it past the first contract and the later you are picked the less liklihood a second team will put much stock on you.

With that said, it is all theoretical and just numbers on paper. In real life, if the opportunity is right in front of you, I can't blame anyone for taking it. To have the opportunity to fulfill your dream when its right in front of you has to mean alot more than some extra dollars.

Exactly

I own Nike shoes……..I have invested interest in Nike. I think everyone understands how dumb that sounds. This is no different. With sports folks become blind even to logic and reasoning.

I'm just pissed off that the season will probably end in a shytty way getting kicked in the teeth in Miami because Tennessee has no offense left.
Wait. .. it probably wasn't you that said it but I remember several arguing that Squirrel was gonna be better than Jalin. Even though I believe Squirrel is capable and he should play well this team was never going to be whole in the bowl game. We lost our qb, Ced disappeared altogether if im honest. Many were saying Bru wouldn't play aling with a few others. Most are mad Jalin is opting out. Ced opted out and no one is b1tching. Is it because he got hurt already ? Yet you want Jalin to risk being drafted higher than Tillman why ?
