Hyatt sitting not an issue

No, definitely not “slightly” less. MUCH less.
In the 34 bowl games played to this point, how many wide receivers have been injured? Zero?
Assuming each team plays at least 5 receivers during a game, that's 340 receivers who have played a bowl game.
Hyatt made his choice. It's over and done with.

I have no idea how many players have been injured in the bowl games. However, there were lots of UT injuries last night. How many UT players were injured in the weight room last month?

Choosing to not play, for whatever reason (even valid reasons such as Draft stock), is quitting. There is a game still to be played and he has chosen to quit. I don't necessarily blame him but I think it's a bad trend developing in CFB. It won't be long until players are sitting out regular season games.

I agree. But now that it's over, and the win in Miami is in the books? I see more as those three possibly sliding instead of improving draft stock.

I definitely hope that isn't the case but if they had played and had decent stats it at the very least would have been beneficial. Now a less than spectacular showing at the combine will certainly do only one thing and that's not positive.

Well, I am sure Tillman Hyatt and Banks all sat because whoever they have as an agent suggested it. And I hope he does a good job pushing their highlights when talking to scouts. He could have had a few more to push.

Some have reported Banks "quit" before being forcefully "opted out"

I apologize as I thought you were part of the opt-out feel goodism speak. I could care less how much anyone makes because it in no way (zero) affects me. I don't get involved in the "athlete vs the system argument". Don't understand fans who do. Just like I have said before I love watching the Vols. I have my entire life. But if I woke up tomorrow to zero sports of any kind my life would not be affected in the least. The year MLB cancelled the world series did it for me with all sports.

If you are hoping to get the masses on your side then the hyperbolic rhetoric should be lessened.

I'm both, because they're the same thing, related to player's not being denied their rights or being vilified for exercising them by those with no skin in the arena.

I don't hope to win anyone - in the main, once people invest in an argument they're unlikely retreat from it. Good hyperbole has factual analogy and used to provoke emotions/response, when typical argument that appeals to the objective person meets someone who isn't.

Agree 100% with bold.

Tillman's prolonged injury status (since Akron) will probably cost him money. Hooker has 6-9 months rehab and, instead of mid-1st round, could easily fall to second or third round which would halve or third his contract.

This is shallow thinking that doesn't stand up to itself; how many QBs just stepped wrong and tore their own ACL, without contact? If only they could schedule their injuries & severity to earlier in their career instead of entering draft season. Or simply wish them away altogether.

I did some injury to my liver last night. Drank close to a liter of Crown Royal ... but I'm a trooper, and there is no keeping this Vol out of action. I'm right back on the horse today. Just poured myself another Crown and Coke.

^^^ This last sentence sums it up. ^^^

Bottom Line :

We won the game. WR's Squirrel White and Ramel Keyton stepped up and made some plays. Good luck to Hyatt at the combine, and in the draft. The issue is moot now.

lol....
Hyatt didn't play...........his loss.
No need in continuing the debate.

I have no problem with Hyatt not playing. I also have no problem with a person complaining about Hyatt not playing. I only took issue with someone saying a violent football game, where people try to slam you to the ground, has nearly the same injury rate as a player working out with a highly-qualified athletic trainer in a state-of-the-art facility.

Possibly but Hooker may disagree

Players have always had the right to sit out of their team's bowl game.

Players have the right to sit out every game. They have a right to not even play the games. They have all kinds of rights. They've always had those rights. What they didn't have was the right to possess an athletic scholarship, but choose not to compete as a student-athlete or to maintain their eligibility while doing so. That's the real slight-of-hand here; acting like the players never had rights. They always had rights. Nothing was ever stopping players from making deals or selling their NIL rights, not once ever. They could have struck out to sign marketing deals any time. They just couldn't do it and be eligible to participate in college athletics, because college athletics had rules for eligbility.

Well, they used to. Now it's just whatever.

I dont have issue with Hyatt sitting. The kid played great all year and is the first Biletnikoff winner in program history. He was protecting himself and his future earnings which is going to change his entire families future. Last night was more about next year than this year in my mind. We didnt REALLY know what we had depth wise at WR behind Tillman, Bru, and Hyatt. We had seen flashes in garbage time but would they struggle against a stout Clemson defense, would we need to look to add weapons in the portal in the offseason? Also we didnt really know which Joe Milton would show against an elite defense in a big time game. They passed with flying colors. Squirrel will step right into Hyatts role and not miss a beat, Milton gets to build off a MVP performance. Hyatt sitting let us unleash Squirrel, the kid shredded a great defense and has all offseason to build confidence. We gained more with Hyatt sitting (regarding next year) than we would have gained with him playing. We got a look at younger guys and the higher Hyatt gets drafted the better it is for the program. Hyatt as a 1st rounder is a great recruiting tool for Huepel. I have zero issue with him sitting, imo we gained more long term with how things played out.

Or maybe they never have the injuries. 🙄

I understand your points. I don't agree with them, but I get it.

What I don't understand is the " wish them away altogether" you've said that b4, and it makes no sense. Love to get an explanation.

We have watched opponents play the games of their lives against us forever.
It was finally our guys who grew into their new jobs last night, and apparently in their bowl practices as well. The new receivers were dominant against a talented secondary.
They beat a great defense and pretty good offense.

Byron Young playing last night paid off big time for his draft stock. Playing on his way to the draft makes him an MVP along with Beasley. Great to see his calculated gamble paid off.

And I feel it is incorrect to lump JBanks in with Hyatt and Tillman. Banks is spinning his academic failures into opting out in lieu of the draft. His situation is different, since he couldn't play regardless, and I know NFL GMs will be very turned off by the way he finished the season.

Will he go in the 1st tho??
Most mocks have him at the backend of the 1st. 20-31. Some teams in that range who could be looking for a deep threat: Chargers, Ravens, Broncos, Chiefs, Cowboys, Vikings. A significant injury kills any shot at that.

He’s one of my favorite players. His speed is gonna make him a lot of money.
