Hyatt sitting not an issue

I don't think we'll really miss Hyatt that much tomorrow night. Odd to say that about a 4.29 guy, but I don't think blazing speed was a big factor in all but 2 or 3 of his touchdowns. It was all scheme. I think Squirrel will be just fine. I can't find a 40 time on him but I did see something about being clocked at 23.6 mph via gps (whatever that means) - article said that would put him among the fastest players in the NFL.

I'm just praying Milton has learned to put some air under the deep ball since Vandy.

GBO!
Lol...it's almost impossible for people on here not to mention Joe over throwing someone.

Choosing to not play, for whatever reason (even valid reasons such as Draft stock), is quitting. There is a game still to be played and he has chosen to quit. I don't necessarily blame him but I think it's a bad trend developing in CFB. It won't be long until players are sitting out regular season games.

You have no idea the financial pressures and/or responsibility Hyatt may have to his family members who are depending on him for a better life because of his NFL contract.

Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall (neck injury in their bowl game) called. He disagrees.

I don't completely disagree but honestly would feel better if either Calloway or Holiday were still around. Pretty thin after White right now at Slot.

When Tillman went down none of us really expected Hyatt to shine like he did. I have frequently wondered what the season and Hyatt's season would have looked like had Tillman not been injured.

All that said... Hyatt has proven he can perform at an elite level. Yes. It was scheme. But it was also a really fast and talented route runner who pressured the D and made the scheming work. There were some of those "schemed" wide open plays that might not have opened up with someone who is slower. Not dismissing White but he hasn't proven he can fill those shoes.

Do you? If I'm not mistaken he has received pretty good NIL money and left some on the table by not playing in the game or coming back.

I respect his right to make his own decision based on his own values and circumstances. But more often than not... those who are sure he should quit and take the money don't. They assume that the money is all that does or should matter.

You are correct of course but I could make the same statement before the Vanderbilt game, for that matter any game after Bama. Why risk injury trying to make the playoffs now that his draft status is high.

Fun fact
Hyatt had 5 tds against Bama.
After that he had 5 tds the rest of the season.

I agree with you but the same thing can be said about Hyatt as recently as summer practice. No one was predicting this year's stats for him.

No one is refuting what you are saying. We just define what he's doing as quitting. And it made it even worse when Anderson and Young (much higher rates prospects playing in a "meaningless bowl game) chose not to quit. No hate towards Hyatt. Just facts.

"Hard to teach an old dog new tricks." I know he is not that old in years , but he has been around football at the higher level of college ball for some time. AND still hasn't learned.
Hooker wasn't good enough to start until he was 23 years old......Milton will be fine, he is only 22.

Squirrel can fly he will be a big weapon next year. As will Bru and Keyton! And I am sure some younger players will. Wide receiver is not on my list of worries! GBO!

A number of players get hurt every week of the season playing in "meaningless games".
Hell, a number of players get hurt every week in practice.
Not playing because of risk of injury would mean never playing.

Kind of aligns with my comment. The thing that UT doesn't have right now is 3 talented guys behind White. If Hyatt had gone down then we might have been talking about Holiday as a top receiver in the country.

White's back up for this game appears to be Merrill who they previously moved outside. There are other things you can do like play a 2nd TE or split out Wright or Sampson but that won't give you the same big play potential or stress the D as much.

Hyatt had the same speed last year with basically the same offense. My point is that you don't know.

If I had made a point it would have been that no one thought UT had much when Heupel took over... and he turned V Jones, Tillman, and Payton into a monster trio that no one could stop. Lost two of those guys and then Tillman gets hurt and he turns Hyatt into the nation's top WR, McCoy into a force, and Keyton who even a lot of UT fans had written off into one of the best receiver groups in the country.... So I really have a lot of faith that Heupel will figure it out now. My concern is depth at the Slot position with Hyatt opting out and the other two going to the portal.

With Heupel, it wouldn't shock me if Merrill showed up and scored 3 TD's with 150 yds receiving.

If Hyatt was my son, I would look at the long term picture and urge him to sit out the Bowl Game.
As a huge fan of UT, I hate it, but I can't push for anyone to risk 1st round money for one last game.
If he was projected for the 3rd round, I would urge him to stay and improve his draft stock, but that is not the case.

Hyatt is a great WR, we’ll miss him. Of course if Milton can’t be accurate it won’t matter who is on the field. Hyatt for all his attributes isn’t the guy with the best hands either.

We will miss him but I’m looking at this game as a chance for some of the kids who will be playing next year to get some reps together. Hope Joe has an awesome game. As a person he’s right up there with Hendon and Dobbs. Want nothing but success for him.

This 100%. Let’s say a freak injury happens and he literally sacrifices millions for a non-natty bowl game. It’s not the call we as fans want, but it’s the smart one.

We will miss him. He's a fantastic football player that is constantly a huge pressure on the defensive back field.

To the people who label him a "quitter" in a negative connotation, I'll just assume you've worked nothing but dead end jobs in-between layoffs and firings over your career.

If he were my son I would allow him to make his decision. But I would remind him that in life you finish what you start.

And you know how assumptions go. The facts are the facts he has quit. No hate. I hope he makes 300 million dollars in the NFL. It will never change the fact that he quit (not due to injury) before the season was done.
