Hypothetical American Protest/Riot Scenarios

and i love this theory that clinton was rightwing. hell isnt' clinton supposed to be the example of a liberal president where the economy was strong? doesn't this basically argue against a true liberal president if the most right wing democrat as president in recent history is the most successful?

Clinton is a giant compared to W, but that's like comparing a piss ant to a paramecium.

Clinton was far Right of Center, and I would hotly dispute his economic record. But, he was a colossus compared to W.

W's handlers should have let him have his whisky. By all accounts, he was far more lucid as a functioning drunk in Texas.

When is the last time the righties had a good, bonafide riot?

LG would consider Glen Beck's rally a "riot" despite the widespread use of the available trashcans and the complete absence of broken windows around the Capitol.

In American politics?

The only name which leaps to mind is Ralph Nader.

if you can only think of one name perhaps you might ask yourself if your perception is off considering left of center means farther left than the average person.

Maybe once unemployment hits 15-20% we'll be able to get enough violent righties in one place. Until then I think most of them are too busy to raise hell.

There is no "relativistic" yard stick for Right and Left.

really? are these actual examples of what you would consider rioting by "the right"?

You're an even bigger idiot than I thought, separated from volzizgreat only by your somewhat superior spelling ability.

boston and new york are well known as a right wing meccas.

what is your definition of center?

I'll go ahead and answer for LG and Gibbs...

1. Mandated partial-birth abortions
2. The entire military and Bush administration imprisoned for war crimes
3. Free healthcare, food, housing, entertainment for all
4. Sarah Palin locked away in dungeon
5. History books rewritten to the tell the truth about the founders (and to include 9/11 as an inside job)

Is that the Center? Or is it Left of Center?

Now I know you're not being serious.

Or, are you seriously trying to say, you don't know what each end of the spectrum represents? Surely, like irony, you know it when you see it?

i'm saying that by definition the center means in between two differing viewpoints. therefore if can only come up with one politician in america who is left of center than perhaps your definition of center is a tad off. i.e. certainly more than one person is more left than a centrist.

No. As many people other than myself have said, the USA is decidedly Right-of-Center in general. The country has moved decidedly Right over the last 30 years.

This is well-known. And obviously, if a country can move to the Right there is obviously a fixed Center - otherwise, the Center just follows along (which it doesn't).

I know there are Left-leaners in the Progressive Caucus in Congress. However, they still often vote the party line which gives a voting record Right of Center.

Think about it. If we were even truly close to the center, there is no way we would still be spending money on the ongoing wars. If we were politically close to center, we would have done what the supermajority of Americans wanted long ago - universal Medicare. etc, etc, etc.

There is a Fixed Center. The USA (politically) is to the Right of that because the government is owned by the dominant institutions of our current culture.
