I admit it. I'm getting optimistic about the Gators.

Every year, everyone is optimistic about the coming year. But I've been a Gator fan for longer than some of you have been on the planet. I'm used to that, and always try to temper that enthusiasm with a recognition of how difficult it is to maneuver to a successful year in the SEC.

But this year has felt different. And now I'm seeing a true competition between drop back passer Franks and dual threat Zaire. The Oline seems a lot better. And we have some young talent at WR.

Defensively we lost a lot of players to the NFL. But there were injuries late last year and some guys starting this year got valuable experience.

I think we win the East going away. We catch a good but somewhat inexperienced Michigan team early. It is still a longshot to beat 'bama. But if we stay healthy and catch a few breaks against them....

'bama .... I'll get back to you.

You should stick to making bad political posts.

I hope you weren't too intoxicated to remember:

Realistic UF schedule considering what they lost on defense:

Michigan - Loss (I think Michigan will be fired up)
North Colorado - Win (best win this one)
Tenn - Loss (sorry, I think your secondary is suspect this year and will get gashed)
Kentucky - Win (though this could be a good game)
Vandy - Win (Vandy isn't going to be as good as some think)
LSU - Toss up (grudge match, depends on stopping Guice)
Texas A & M - Win (only because I think this is Sumlin's year of firing)
UGA - Toss Up (C'mon, saying you'll win the World's Largest Cocktail Party is like trying to predict the Super Bowl right now.)
Mizz - Win...easy
USCe - Win, though it won't be easy
UAB - Win, building year for UAB
FSU - Loss (tough team this year, though they won't do as well as others predict)

10-2 at best, 8-4 at worst. I'll split and say you go 9-3.

Your secondary is young, you don't have a proven QB, your D Line lost a monster...lot of compounding factors mainly on defense to think you go 11-1 into December.

Based on your prediction of the recent presidential election, I'm astonished you're still predicting anything.

Now, let's talk about the defense which was hardly elite last season to begin with. You lost 7 of the top 100 players taken in the 2017 NFL Draft:

Quincy Wilson (#31)
Marcus Maye (#39)
Jarrad Davis (#40)
Jalen Tabor (#53)
Bryan Cox (#64)
Alex Anzalone (#76)
Caleb Brantley (#99)

You also lose Joey Ivie who was drafted (#228) plus Marcell Harris due to a season ending injury.

I see 4 really good players (Jefferson, Sherit, Gardner and Dawson)

A few counterpoints:

1) UF's defense finished 6th in the country last year in total defense, yet you called it "hardly elite."
2) Of the 7 drafted players you listed above, four of them missed 4 or more games due to injury. In other words, Florida played roughly a third of the season without these guys and still finished 6th in total defense. The only two who stayed completely healthy were Tabor and Wilson.
3) You listed the four "really good players you see" but you left out the team leader in sacks (DE Jabari Zuniga), Taven Bryan (major contributor and starter at DT last year alongside Brantley), safety Nick Washington (5th year senior and a guy who has played a ton of SEC football), LB Vosean Joseph who came on big time last year especially against LSU when he knocked their QB into the 3rd row on the goal line, LB David Reese who more than held his own as a true Freshman in SEC games, v FSU and in the bowl game. And I'm here to promise you, Florida's incoming Freshmen DB class is ridiculous! Size, speed and ball skills off the charts on about 5 of these guys.

1) Perhaps I should have clarified - not elite against Tennessee. Between the 5:12 mark of the 2nd quarter and the 8:27 mark of the 4th quarter, Tennessee scored 38 points in exactly 26 minutes and 45 seconds of elapsed game time.

2) All 7 of those Florida players drafted in the top 100 of the 2017 NFL Draft plus Ivey and Harris played vs Tennessee on Sept. 24th... and once again, Tennessee scored 38 points in 26:45 and amassed 498 yards and 22 first downs for the game. So excuse me if I wasn't impressed.

3) I'm tempted to give you Zuniga (to be nice, I will) but not Bryan, Joseph or Reese... and I assume you were kidding about Washington. Seriously? Washington? :eek:lol:

The OP can almost be word for word a post on the main forum from a Tenn fan the last 10 years.

Perhaps, hopefully, roles have finally been reversed.

If I had to guess, I would say 8-4 or 9-3 for the gators. At some point the luck of backing into the SECE championship will end.

I've said it before and will again, Tennessee kicked the crap out of UF's defense in the second half last year. I was surprised and impressed. Nobody (except Bama) had made Florida look totally inept on defense like UT did in the second half. Ironically, that game was one of the few games Florida was completely healthy. That was before they lost Maye, Anzalone, Davis, Sherit and others. Hats off to UT for pounding UF's defense last year.

You may not want to "give me" Zuniga, Bryan, Jospeh and Reese, but those guys will all be drafted in the NFL in a year or two. Every one of those guys were on the field for the 3 goal line stands against LSU. I think you're underestimating Washington. He played excellent football last year after Marcus Maye broke his arm. He's smart and experienced and athletic. We'll see how he does this year, Coaches are expecting a very good season from him.

My overall point was, if you think Florida only has 4 worthy players on defense, I think you're mistaken.

I think the loss of Harris is going to be more detrimental than they want to admit. Especially if they are predicting 11-1 type of stuff

Go Wolverines!!!!!!!!!

I hate Florida as much as the next guy, but I'd prefer to see them win against Michigan just because of the ridiculous big 10 bias in the polls right now. Florida can lose when it actually matters as far as we're concerned; in SEC play.

I don't get the Kentucky hype either.
Or the Georgia hype.

I too think Florida wins the division going away.

Down year for UT. Muschamp at SC. Kentucky is Kentucky. Georgia will piss themselves like always.

Muschamp at SC. How did that work out for your team last year?

While they aren't the SC for 2009 to 2012 they are improving again.

That being said, UF fans are still the worst. Winning the East this year isn't anything to brag about. Whomever wins is just a victim for the West winner.

Wouldn't get your hopes up. You play a rough schedule with a LOT of talented teams. Should be a fun season though watching those big games... Michigan, Georgia, UT, LSU, ATM, FSU

I don't have to deal with Big 10 fans. I see Florida fans on here daily.
