I admit it. I'm getting optimistic about the Gators.

8-4......6-2 in the SEC still gets you either tied for 1st in the East or first alone...

IF you don't have a bunch of injuries...

somehow you guys find a way....

Of course--I'd so very much like to be WRONG about it and you guys finish 6-6......:salute:

if you are basing any of your expectations on Zaire you are going to be disappointed. He was average at best at ND, worse than what UF had last year. IMO he is just another Luke del Rio or Applebee (what ever his name is). better runner, worse passer.

that being said I am sure in his first start, against UT, playing with a broken throwing arm he goes off for 400+ passing yards, 4 touch downs, a deflected pass he catches and runs in for a TD plus 2 more rushing touchdowns. He then never completes another pass in his career.

Florida is pretty thin at a few positions as far as depth. Easily could be an abysmal season if they have an injury at a key position. I'm just not sold on them versus the schedule they have.

I am not as optimistic as my fellow Gators. I don't believe in Malik, and if any gator fan says they aren't worried about Feleipe's development, they're lying. However after treon harris and the rest of the scrubs we've trotted out there, I can't imagine an option we go with this year actually being worse. I think it is reasonable to expect slightly better qb play.. but that isn't saying much.

Excited about our offensive weapons, and think oline will be better. Defense won't be championship caliber but I think the predictions of it falling off a cliff are overstated. Still think we'll have a quality unit.

All that being said, I don't see why we can't win the east again. I don't really believe the Georgia hype and Butch has to prove he can win the east once. Will be another beatdown by Bama I imagine. I'm more excited about the coming years as long as Mac keeps up this new recruiting success.

I agree except that the ineptitude at QB was so enormous that I feel like we have to be so much better there. Its impossible not to be.

Just like we had so many injuries on defense it's impossible for it to not be alot better if we stay healthy.

All I know is that the Gators SUCK! They also have a coach that has a thing for sharks. Beyond that there's not much more anyone can gain from this thread.

Oh and no disrespect toward our visiting Gators. You seem like good people to me even if I can't understand why you support Gators and fish rapists. It's Murrica and you are free to do so.

Did you think this was clever?

Serious question LG..

What makes you guys so optimistic about Zaire coming in and your QB situation/passing game getting better?

Zaire never lit it up at ND and, by many of your own fans admission, none of your other QB's have ever done anything.

Do you think its the "new guy" syndrome? Or just hoping for something better?

How could it be worse?
UF has been a QB wasteland for almost a decade.

Could not answer it any better. The fact that we won the East two years running without a consistent, even minimally serviceable QB, is testament either to McElwain being some kind of Wizard, or everyone else in the SEC being just plain putrid.

I'm going with BOTH

It's not like the difference between last season's team and this season's team is strictly injuries.

Sure it is. You will not replace Barnett on defense or Kamara on offense. You can't replace Dobbs legs as a QB but He did have accuracy problems. If Dormandy starts our accuracy will go up while QB scrambling will go down. Even trade.

It's most certainly the latter.

McElwain is supposed to be an offensive/QB guru. He has completely failed to find/develop a QB in his time there so far, and he's won a lot of games by virtue of a great defense which he had basically nothing to do with assembling. If he's a wizard, then he's been intentionally hiding it.

We'll start to get a sense of how good a coach he is in 2017/2018; can he finally get a QB, and is his defense at least solid with the guys he has recruited?

Gators talk real big this time of year. Remember LY how Del Rio was going to torch the SEC????

I do think the gators will be very good. Big concern will be depth on defense and history tells us teams with lack of depth on defense struggle to close big games.....

Talking big? Torching the SEC? Your use of hyperbole is noted.

I recall last year around this time thinking its good to have a QB who can complete a forward pass. Torching anyone was gravy.

I was happy they could take a snap without falling over or pooping themselves.

No..

Just FYI they have a 5 star QB committed. If they don't suck this year... better watch out.
