I am at a NFL fandom crossroad

You realize this would be like me giving up on the Titans and rooting for the Colts, while simultaneously waving the "Peyton Manning is the greatest QB of all time" banner?

Mine for the Cowboys really has nothing to do with a certain player, but more my locale and desire to have quality time with my son.

My NFL passion has dwindled to rooting for my fantasy football players. If rooting for the same team as my son forms a bond then I would have no problem doing that.

Ya, that is probably the correct answer.

It's not like you live in DC and he wants to be a Cowboy fan. He wants to support the home team of the place he's growing up.

All of his friends are wearing Cowboys gear all the time.

I would really enjoy taking him to a game.

OK, this is going to be a bit of a long story.

I grew up a Redskins fan almost 30 years ago because John Riggins was the man. Still is.

I had Joe Theisman as my QB, who I now absolutely hate.

I also hate the ownership. I would like to personally punch Snyder in the face.

I think Shanny is a good coach and I think they can work it out, but I think the reward I get for pulling for them is worth the pain.

I have been living in DFW, TX for 5 years now. I have been the ultimate anti-fan. Now a few things are happening.

I like Jason Garret. I think they are going to keep him as a coach.

I like Jason Witten. He is indeed the man.

My five (almost six) year old son has informed me he is a Cowboy fan. The scene was akin to an afterschool special.

He is really enjoying playing flag football this fall and I would like to have this Father-Son bond we could have by going to Cowboys games together.

I feel as if I am Hulk Hogan starting the NWO.

Feels weird.

I am familiar with the pain of a child picking up a local team.

my aunt lives in TX and I used to get all kinds of Cowboys gear as a kid. Still like the star but don't really cheer for them

Besides, with the way this season has gone, you know you aren't raising a front-runner.

The Vols are not negotiable, though.

I've been a Redskins fan since I can remember....I always say I'm going to root for another team in the offseason.......I just can't seem to abandon the Skins, even though Dan Synder has ruined the franchise

Remain true to your roots.....At least your franchise has had the fortune of Super Bowl Glory.

Obsess and focus on that. The Cowboy fans I know are great at it and joining them in their pity party would do you no favors.

It would be one thing if you were considering a flip to the Texans. But Skins to Cowboys is a little tough. I am fully prepared for my son to be a Titans fan one day. I will support that and take him to all the games I can afford. Still, I'll make sure he knows that his dad's team will always be the Panthers.

Its ok to cheer for your local pro teams, but stick to your loyalties when they play each other. Thats what I do when the Titans play the Chargers

In the big scheme of things, having some good quality time with your son is well worth the "switch". IMO, not that it's worth much.

Simple solution: "Son, you're grounded until you quit cheering for the Cowboys".

Update:

My wife was doing some Christmas shopping and bought my son and me some gear.

Yeah, I agree. My late teens/early 20s version of me would be outraged.

Turns out that there is more to life than sports.
