Was it a late hit on Tebow? Yes. Should it have been flagged? Yes. What Spikes did is much worse. Not only should he be suspended for the rest of the season, he should also be charged with assault.YOU (collective VN reference) whined about the eye gouge. YOU (same reference) are dismissive of the late hit on Tebow. YOU (same) defend on grounds Tebow wasn't hurt, while ignoring that Easley also wasn't hurt. YOU (ditto) say Easley could have lost eyesight, conveniently ignoring that Tebow was post concussion and such hits could be very damaging, if not worse. YOU (repeat) claim that Meyer is a scoundrel for not suspending Spikes for the season, that the incident with Spikes is representative of UF players in general, and that SEC officials did nothing about it, while remaining silent as to absence of ANY punishment for UGA late hit on Tebow, no casting of apsersion towards the Dawgs, generally, and no consternation that the SEC has not, on its own, looked into the late hit on Tebow.
I think it pretty obvious what camp of folks is being a wee bit inconsistent here.
But still the MOD's DO NOTHING........WHY???????????????Nice try but not buying it on the hypocrite accusation, you have proven once again that you're just a gator homer who is taking up bandwidth on this board. You and your ilk have been accusing us of talking about the eye gouge thing and blowing it out of proportion all week and there is an enormous difference between fans talking about an incredibly cheap and admittedly premeditated malicious attack and a coach calling someone out on a roughing the passer penalty which didn't get called, especially after St Tebow essentially says that all is fair in war and football.
i watched it and thought at the time, and still do, that the defensive player looked around a little, saw no offical watching, and gave tebow a healthy shove. Nothing he couldn't take and he wasn't hurt.
But when the argument is made that spikes' offense wasn't that bad because he wasn't successful, the retort from the vols faithful has been that he meant to do easley harm, and that was what mattered. Well, it seems pretty obvious from this video that the uga player meant to do tebow harm, too.
If not actually gouging out easley's eyes is irrelevant because it was the attempt that matters, then so does this fellow's taking a cheap shot at tebow.
In fairness to y'all, i think this incident got lost in the shuffle of what came out afterwards as to spikes. The complaint we gator fans have is that the reaction to spikes of "the horror! The horror!" has been a little bit much. My original post was simply to point out that there were plays in the other direction that could be indicted on the same principles you all claim to espouse as to spikes, but then are not willing to universally apply as to the late hit on tebow, and that the reason you change your theory is to justify using the whole thing as an opportunity to just criticize all things uf.
I get it. We all do. We understand what its really about. Just making sure you guys realize we know the reality of the situation.

I just think it noteworthy that everyone was ready to jump on the anti-Florida bandwagon with Spikes, but nary a word when the UGA player goes after the guy recently recovered from a hospital-worthy concussion.
Just seems like maybe the outrage over Spikes was a bit ... manufactured.

Spikes was asked and evidently did not lie about it at all and got punished. Wonder what the UGA player would say if asked ....
