I am sorry, I want us to get a new offensive coordinator

Something happened during the Oklahoma game. The offense hasn’t been the same since.
It looked very much like that offense last weekend against KY. 3 dropped TD balls. When the QB and WR show up on the same night, it does wonders. I also don't think the offense that night was exactly elite either. Coaches are putting players in position to make plays. Players gotta make the plays. Overthrowing open guys isn't a matter of play calling. Dropping balls while wide open isn't play calling. We wouldn't be griping about those two things if the coaches were not putting them in position.

The two major issues that I have with play calling are the following:

1. Not a lot of mid-quick high percentage pass calls
2. Not any running blacks outside the center (sweeps, etc.)

As a result, I don't think we spread the field out horizontally. We have been doing more of that the last few weeks though. I don't know enough, to be honest, to know whether this is a team issue or play-call issue but it just seems like whole dimensions of our offense doesn't exist.

Heupel is the play caller and he doesn’t fully trust Nico yet. That’s the reality. If he did and Nico was as good as Hooker, the offense would be on fire like it was in 2022. But it’s not and it’s frustrating because we were told Nico was a generational QB. He’s good but nothing I’ve seen screams he’s generational good.

I get that but what does having only running plays to the center instead of outside sweeps have to do with Nico? Also, wouldn't more quick, short/medium pass plays be better for a new QB.

Fair enough

For the most part you are right. But there have been some really, really bad play calls at key times this year. I mean real head scratchers. I have a feeling it’s due to Nico’s youth and inexperience. I know we all go back to 2022. Remember that was Hookers second full year as a starter in the system and his 5th year as a college QB.
I'm looking at it from a stand point that the QB is getting 2 plays every single snap. From that point it's up to our QB to put us in the right play based off what he is seeing. We have a young QB so he isn't going to pick the proper play every time. It's just part of the growth. There hasn't been a play for me where I wonder wtf are they doing. It makes sense to me everytime. What I don't see every time is execution.

Not to mention that guy's are schemed open every game almost all game. There have been huge plays missed due to Nico missing the throw, some (KY game) were on point to guys wide open and they didn't make the catch. You're talking about a ton of points left on the field due to execution, not play calling. The people clamoring for Alex Golesh amuse me to no end.

Moore didn’t see a WIDE OPEN Kitselman over the middle Saturday and instead threw a deep low percentage sideline throw that went incomplete. If he sees Kitselman, it’s at least a 30 yard gain, maybe more.

Play calling has been bad at times. Overall, I don't think it's been that bad though. Definitely not close to bad enough to warrant a firing. Receivers are getting open. Drops, turnovers, and penalties have been major issues this season, which has nothing to do with the play calling.
Play calling has been fine the entire year

Exactly, but I’m sure if Golesh were here, Moore would’ve seen him. I’m so sick of the “Golesh is what’s missing” take.

I can’t figure out what seem of these people are watching. It’s the lack of execution/awareness, not playcalling, that has hundred offensive production.
Anyone who gripes about play calling just doesn't know any better. If a play doesn't work = bad play calling to the dumbed downed sector

It just really comes down to execution. You take the play where we get stuffed on the one, Sampson pops out around the end and scores. West doesn’t have the vision Sampson does right now, he’ll get there.
I thought the same. Kistleman sealed the edge and Lewis, who is a true freshman, just didn't react. I'm sure film will point that out to him. I still didn't like the 4 straight running plays.

8th nationally in total offense begs to differ.

The only issue we have is turning the ball over and WRs not catching the ball. Kicking game also cost us 15 points in 2 of the last 3 weeks. If we make the kicks against Bama and UK, we score 30 points and 37 points in those games respectively. If we don't turn the ball over in scoring territory, we would have had more points against UF OU,. and and Ms St as well.

If we take care of the ball, the offense will score a lot of points. It's that easy.
