I am sorry, I want us to get a new offensive coordinator

Alabama's offense is simple. Run Milroe, throw it to Williams. Tennessee had the answer to both.

Yeah, I think we outcoached Alabama from offense side of the ball.

That being said, I think we got out coached against both Arkansas and Florida.

Sure we are 8-1 but it took OT against a 4-5 Florida team to get there.

Out of those 8 teams we have beaten, only one team has a winning record right now: Alabama.

You seem to be in denial. So we put up 33 points. What does that mean? Nothing. That is the first time all season, in SEC play, that Tennessee put up 30+ points and it was against a team that was 2-8 and 0-6 in SEC play.

Iowa won 10 game last year and fired their OC because their offense was DREADFUL. Should Iowa have kept their OC because they won 10 games?

You can win games with an elite defense and sub part offense. It has helped that Tennessee has played only one SEC team that has a winning record so far (Alabama).

Granted, we have a freshmen QB and our OC is still new. I can buy those arguments but you can't deny we have issues.

And Indiana has a first year coach, who has guided them to their first 10 win season EVER, and record offensive outputs. Coaching matters.

I think the thing they lost with Golesh was his ability to see the mismatches quick from the box and draw up those explosive plays we saw in 2022. But the biggest thing was the players executed those big plays most of the time. We've had plenty of opportunities to create those explosive plays and just haven't executed unfortunately.
Exactly!!! I'd say he had a lot more talent at UT than at USF. Look at SF over the last 15 years plus and see what you see.

You struggle staying on topic. Are we discussing Iowa or are we discussing Tennessee? So you’re upset we put up 33 pts and win the game because other teams somehow managed more? What a great time to be a Tennessee fan. Each game stands alone, zig zagging of different games has no impact no matter how you try to connect it. The more you know.

True but Indiana has played one of the weakest schedules of the teams in contention for playoff. We will see how they do against Ohio State.

If Heupel wants to keep Halzle, I am down with it. There is more to the offense than just play calling and it could be worse. As a system, we are doing great overall. I just want to talk about how we can improve.

Iowa is a GREAT comparison. They kept winning 10 games but lost any major game because their offense was dreadful. They recently fired their OC after a 10 win season. Do you think they should have kept the OC? What did you think of their offense last year when we played them in the bowl game?

I wouldn't say upset, but concerned when we play Georgia next week. I was concerned when we had an OT game against Florida or lost at Arkansas.

I do think my arguments are over blown. Our offense is getting better game after game and I probably need to trust the system and not overreact but to be in denial of our offensive woes just because we had a good game against Miss State (who is dreadful) is another thing. We look a lot like Iowa right now and that is why I pointed out that comparison.

All a team can do is play their schedule. To be 10-0, undefeated is remarkable regardless; especially for a first year guy. Upon arrival, Cignetti said "I win football games". And he does as he did at JMAD. National Coach of the Year, IMO

Agree and you can see it with this thread itself. Most the first page aligns with OP while the rest is spent bashing it (my OP was probably an overreaction but I think the people bashing it are pretty close minded to our issues as well). Our offense came a live in the second half. Some of that is our depth, good coaching (we do make good adjustments), and Miss State just being bad.

Hmmm, let’s take a look at the numbers:

20 points and 174 yards passing in the first half. Stopped twice in the red zone.

13 points and 38 yards passing in the second half.

Nick Saban always went out and hired new play callers to change things up and stay fresh.

We have been predictable all season. Hurt us against Arkansas and almost bit us with Florida.

Something needs to change in the play calling. Perhaps we don't fire anyone but let's bring someone in that can mix things up a little.
We hired a new play caller. He hasn’t been the OC for two whole years yet.

This play calling is so frustrating and uncreative.

EDIT: Probably an overreaction post and my apologies but there has been frustration a times throughout this year. Guess we need to trust the system that got us to 8-1.
Have you seen the receivers with the football in hand point blank drop it?

Heupel either calls the plays or approves them. Nothing happens with this O without his fingerprints on it.

So do you really want a new HC?

The constant run up the middle may be our demise....So predictable.
The Vol passing game has been inconsistent at best. Nico plus the WRs. UT leads the SEC in rushing with 235 ypg. Texas is #2 at 213.

The Vols are #1 nationally among P-4 programs with ND #2 at 214 ypg.

One of the best compliments you can pay to a run game is that it is successful... and "so predictable" at the same time.
