Must be a yankee.

really not a true vol at all as my 7 yr old has become a big Auburn fan and I find myself pulling for them. And I think Gus is a half crazy genius and I like that. My son thinks they cannot lose because he sees these crazy plays. Now he asks me everyday when the game is and I'm pulling for them.

For the most part I really don't care who wins.
It should be a fun game to watch.

Since I didn't see a Capital One bowl thread, I'll put this here. LMAO.

Did I even imply that I give a rat's ass who anyone here roots for? You're the clown offering vicarious support to make your worldview somehow better for us. I haven't stated one way or another. Laughing at your reasoning is noncommittal.

"Futile" insults? Nice usage. Mask your effort better.

I suspect I've said far more substantial than you're capable of saying - so read more and post less.

Typical of your posts; replete with drivel and impertinent to the topic at hand. Yet, I'm the clown for offering support of my stance while you're the one using mockery to attest what?

Maybe my pea-size brain is incapable of understanding, but I don't see how your use of the word noncommittal in the fashion it was used makes a lick of sense. Unless the meaning of noncommittal has changed without my knowing.

Look who's arguing that the masses aren't stupid.

Speaking if stupid, you're arguing broad acceptance to bolster your opinion. Congratulations on the novel approach to idiocy.

Just a note... An argument from incredulity is no better than a bandwagon fallacy.

An argument is not true just because lots of people agree with it. However, it is also not untrue just because you can't conceive of its truth.

The simple matter here is that no one is wrong. Different people have different reasons for cheering or not cheering for in-conference rivals. None of you will prove your personal opinion as right for everyone.

With all that said, I'll give my opinion. I am personally conflicted on this. I don't like to see our rivals succeed. Primarily because they are our rivals, and because I don't want to recruit against their success. However, their losses make our losses look worse, and cheapen our wins. Vice versa.

Because I'm conflicted, I can understand each opinion given.

Level headed response and describes very much the way I feel. I hope Bama and UF loses every regular season game they play, but once they don't, as has been the case since Saban arrived, their bowl win doesn't impede our future success. If Bama goes 12-1 and wins the Capital One Bowl, they're still going to pull in top 5 classes, much the same as if they were to win the NC. Losing a NC game won't put a dent in their recruiting efforts so I'd just assume they win it over ND or OSU.

It's being proven right now by Butch that one season, let alone one game makes or breaks future success. We need rivals like Bama to become perennial Music City Bowl participants before it starts affecting their ability to recruit. The only way that may happen with Saban on board, is if he's 90 and roaming the sidelines without britches on because he's lost his head. He's the most proven commodity, perhaps in CFB history, and kids, especially from the South, will continue to line up to play for him. It's as asinine to think that rivals losing a bowl game somehow helps us, as much as to think them winning doesn't hurt us.

Yeah but didn't you get a least a tad bit happy when they lost to Utah in the Sugar Bowl a few years ago, and Florida lost to Louisville last year :)

I get what you're saying, and I agree that winning or losing those bowls really didn't matter much; it meant way more to Utah and Louisville than Alabama or Florida.

I get more happy about UF losing because I grew up in FL and listened to their crap for 22 years before getting out. I despise Bama but I respect Bama.

I was born at the start of the 10 year winless streak and have Bama grads in my family tree, so I wanted nothing more as a young boy than to finally end that streak and visit my family from Huntsville as a winner. We're two of the top 10 programs of all-time, and have a rivalry built on a foundation of tradition and respect, so at the end of the day I want them to lose every game but I can't help but admire what they've accomplished and amongst the true fans that feeling is reciprocated on their end as well. It's the rednecks that ruin it for all sides.

I wish I could like this more than once.

I think this is what most people think that live around fans of other teams and have to hear their boasting and their bandwagon fans. What you have to hear and put up with the most is probably what annoys you and/or you learn to despise that team and their fans.

Bama has always had a ton of fans, but not like recently. Hell, you couldn't hardly find a person wearing Bama gear back during the Dubose, Fran and Shula years. Same goes for Vandy football fans. All you'd hear was "wait till basketball season" after they finished another 2-10 season and the comedy in that was that they weren't even that good in that sport either. Now they think they're a football school because they've been to 3 lower tier bowls and beaten 3 teams with a winning record in 3 years.

I live in southern middle TN now and the amount of Bama "fans" here is comical. I went into a Hibbits a month back and the Bama gear was literally 5x that of UT. The manager asked if he could help me, I said yeah you can, can you tell if I'm in AL or TN because I thought my address read TN at the end?
