I Give Up..

I don't know what magical past the OP is remembering, but besides a run of a few good years UT basketball has been this or worse for a long time.

People like this are why there are so many UT football/UNC, Duke, KY, etc basketball fans

I have given up on Coach Martin but definitely won't quit on my Vols. They always be my team thru thick and thin!

Josh, maybe if you had said that you give up on the coach, then I think most of us could get behind you on that because even those that supported CCM up until the most recent game have even given up on him. If an approval rating poll was taken now, I bet you it would be pretty low on him not able to get it done.

I think the main point is even those of us who were Martin defenders and wanted the season to play out are not excited anymore. Losing to teams on the road is one thing, but losing to mediocre teams on your own floor and playing lifeless basketball is another.

Really at this point how many of you are excited to go see our team play?

I think Martin and the team need to earn the fans trust again. I may go see another game this year if I have nothing better to do, but right now really just don't want to waste my time with this years basketball team until they show some signs of life or at least that they care about winning.

I may get bashed for this but I'm risking it. I'm about to give up on Tennessee's basketball team.. I've been a huge fan and supporter of our basketball program my whole life but all the sudden, it just isn't as exciting as it used to be. I miss the energy our fans used to have before every game but now it's like they don't even care anymore. I miss the times when we used to win and upset good teams. I'm not a bandwagon fan cause I'm always going to be a VFL. I just miss the good old days when Tennessee basketball used to be exciting to watch but now, it's just heartbreaking to watch anymore. I just don't think it'll be the same ever again and I'm about to give up on Tennessee basketball. I'm trying my best to support Coach Martin and I still think he's a good coach but he needs to make some changes and fast before it's too late. Anyone else feel this way? Bash away.
Where in the hill is Ray Mears when you need him, good old days .:banghead2:

Exactly. I'm still trying my best to believe in Coach Martin but none of this is acceptable. We have Sweet 16 or even Elite 8 talent at best and there shouldn't be any excuses on why Martin can't win with the players he has on his roster right now.

Just let the season play out.Anything can happen

Anything can happen, after slow starts the past two years the team has come on strong at the end of the season only to lose in the NIT. This year after ten games the team has not improved.
I hope we win every game, but I am afraid it is about to get worse. The team is playing with no passion and what happens if they give up on CCM.
I have followed UT basketball since Ernie and Bernie. This team is more frustrating to watch than the O'Neil and Peterson teams because you can see the talent, but the talent is being wasted.

Excellent points.

I have one small disagreement in that Peterson did have considerable talent on his teams. We didn't recognize some of it until Pearl took over and some of it was simply wasted. Yarbrough, Haislip, Higgins, Slay, Watson, Mc***don, Lofton, Smith, etc. were quite talented, yet Buzz couldn't make it happen.

McFadgon - apparently I accidentally switched the "d" with the "g" in his last name and it was replaced with asterisks!

You are right Buzz did waste quite a bit of talent, maybe my current frustration over CCM clouded my thinking.

You're done with the BB program cause its not exciting, yet your still sayin Cuonzo is a good coach and we need a line up change vs a coaching change? Your parents should be slapped for giving an 8 yo internet access.

Also to the OP, funny you're so fed up with the basketball program, but are you about to give up on the football program? Because it's been a heck of a lot worse the past 5 years than the basketball program, and while everyone can claim we're on the right path with Jones, the fact is he still hasn't proven he can do it yet.

So I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you made an emotional yet irrational post when you made this thread out of frustration.

Well, we jumped on him like a pack of hyenas. Anyone else who thinks they're going to give up better take notice.

They can always pull for another team.

Will always be a Vol fan, but it is hard to sustain a positive frame of mind when the coaching is comparable to Dooley. We are totally wasting the talent at UT due to stubbornness and not willing to adjust methods.:blink:

I know how the OP feels, as I am a DIEHARD Lions fan. Ive been through so much torture and mental anguish!! A lot of passionate Lions fans here in Detroit have said they are ready to give up on them after that Monday night debacle lol We are disgusted! So, do what you gotta do man.

I think it is already to late. I hate to beat a dead horse but I really would try to get Pearl back. Man he pumped life into a BB program that was on life support for a long time and I think he could do it again

Asking for Pearl back IS beating a dead horse, friend. I understand folks wishing he was still the coach. I am one of them. However, the reward of having Bruce back is outweighed by the risk. It's the way it went down. It had little to do with the violations, and more to do with how Bruce handled it. Bruce Pearl may be a folk hero from now until the end of time in Knoxville, but to the NCAA, he is a pariah. Even Bruce is telling us to let it go. Listen to him.

If Martin cannot make this team play to reasonable expectations, UT has to pay another contract buyout that can hardly be afforded. This all is just one of many consequences of Mike Hamilton being the AD.

Best thing we all can do, as painful as it may be, is let CCM finish out his contract, and let Dave Hart and the powers that be at UT make a decision then. Let's back our players. They represent Tennessee, and that includes you and me. And if they have ever needed it before, they need it now more than ever. GO VOLS.

I feel your pain but don't give up. The problem with quitting is you're not going to be allowed back.
