To be clear there is nothing in the OP that implies that Manning recruited Butch Jones to Tennessee. The last sentence is about Manning's reaction at the time. Butch recounted the pone call inhis press conference (this is old news). He said he was thinking that he WISHED Manning was trying to get him to come to Tennessee instead of Colorado because this is his "dream job".

My conspiratorial mind makes me think that Manning knew that Hart was going rogue, and was doing his part to make sure he didn't hire Jones by pitching Colorado. That's speculation and is at odds with what Manning is saying publicly about being asked to call (which doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense to me to have a UT guy pitching the Buffaloes) I admit.
It makes sense when you consider Manning lives and works in CO. It was pretty clear to me from the beginning that someone at U of C had connections to the Broncos organization (as it turns out it was John Elway) and asked Manning to put in a good word about living and working in the state.
Again, I don't begrudge anyone for wanting Gruden or buying into the early rumors. Nothing wrong with wanting the "best" available coach and believing what did sound legit from multiple sources.
However, the conspiracy theories that flew around afterwards were ridiculous. This is case in point.
Btw, thanks for actually addressing the content of the OP and not just going into knee jerk defensive mode like the first 6 pages of posters (Manning playoff debate aside).
