I have a feeling Tennessee will be a different team this Saturday

Biggest difference is that it is at home. I thought the Oklahoma game was us finally showing we could win big games on the road, and then….
There we go again 🙄

Hear me out: It did. We won a big game in a hostile environment on the road, at a time when we were set up to fail. That happened.

But this one also reminded us that you can get embarrassed on the road. Hopefully this one hits different on Monday bc they have the confidence that they could have done better.

The Gators are the Vols kryptonite. The Vols will find a way to lose. I don’t know how anyone could have confidence in this team after they crapped the bed against Arkansas. Petrino ran circles around Heupel. It was embarrassing to say the least and frustrating to watch. Heupel calls plays like he’s scared to death and his QB, Nico, is a reflection of Heupel’s lack of confidence. It’s almost like Heupel played the Ouija Board and Dooley has possessed his body. 4-2 after this weekend. The Gators own the Vols until proven otherwise. It’s a historical fact. I hope I’m wrong but…..

Based on what? Under this logic, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, any top 25 road team are our Kryptonite. (Basically anyone good). Go read my thread about the Florida Curse myth. In fact, going back and looking at the scores (minus Pruitt era), we have actually played Florida better than some of the other teams that have given us issue. Now we tend to lose the close games against them and perhaps that is what is driving the myth but unlike Alabama or Georgia, at least we are staying in the game with them on many instances.

Tennessee just hasn't been good and Florida has good teams. Simple equation there.

The key to beating UF has always been the same, run the ball, no turnovers, and cut down on dead ball penalties. That is the key to pretty much beating everybody. When this offense can run and not play behind the sticks things go a lot easier.

Season is on the brink, avenge embarrassing loss from last year, etc.

I have a feeling this game will look a lot like 2023 South Carolina, a revenge game.

Now whether this saves the season or not, we will see... thanks to the Arkansas loss, I think the next 3 games are must wins (UF, Alabama, UK).
Curious as to why you think it's going to happen this week vs last week vs Arky? We'll have the same OL and QB. Might be missing at least one WR and DL. Other than being at home, I'm not seeing a situation that will improve over the next few days.

Nico can win this game single handedly with his feet if he's allowed to. We don't need to worry about the OL with the talent we have.
Not sure I'm reading your post correctly. Are you saying our skill guys are so good that we don't need to worry about the OL?

I'm not there yet with Nico's running ability. With his long strides I think he has real good straight-line speed but his stop and go twitch is not close to what Hooker was, his 6'-6" frame just doesn't allow that he is more like Joe running the ball just not as big of a man. I actually thought the 6'6" Taylen Green for Arky was a better runner, Pearce should have sacked him once for big loss but he faked him out of his shoes for a big 1st down gain.

Road vs. Home game
Team was sniffing its own farts (as confirmed by Sampson)
Coaching really didn't adjust well after Oklahoma and was too content with the win

I think we are now in panic mode to get things going.

I feel like the difference will be the offensive line. I think they will come out with more fire. I also think Florida isn't as good as Arkansas and they are playing on the road.

I consistently see you kicking down the team on this message board. Why?

To sum it up, we are now basically in the same position as Arkansas was before they played us.

Know folks will point to the early games and successes, but once you get into SEC conference play, the athletes get bigger, faster and stronger. Coaches are better, too. Windows get a lot smaller and close far more quickly. I think all this has Nico on his heels. He seems a bit taken aback. Deer in the headlight look. Eventually the game will slow down for him, but for now, I think it's just going too quickly for him. I also think it's why we're not seeing the Heupel hyperspeed offense. The game hasn't slowed for Nico yet. I think Heupel will slow things down and simplify the offense in an attempt to bring Nico along at a pace he can deal with and protect his psyche. He knows the damage that occurred when UT tore OU's Arnold apart and broke him. I'm sure he's not going to let that happen to Nico. Still think we end up with the OU offense and game plan for the foreseeable future...probably the rest of the year TBH.

I think all these self-defeatist, quitter Vols fans need to become Gator or Bama things. They just don't belong here.

Agree. Not sure we blow florida out but our offense should look better and we get the W.

It just has that vibe. Not just Tennessee, but just watching CFB in general. It feels like that rebound type situation. Our offensive line has played very poorly but they have potential to string things together. I also think the team will have a different pop at home.

I just get the vibe our offensive line is going to come into this game angry and fired up.

I think you're clinging to hope, more than you are actual "belief".

Let's say the team is Ole Miss that just lost at Arkansas and was playing Florida at home, I would still say the same thing. It just seems to be something to do with CFB. Florida is very suspect on defense (more so than Arkansas).

Heupel has a great history at home. His only loss since the start of the 2022 season was Georgia last year.

Now if the fans, (at the game), show up with the defeatism on here, than Florida has a shot because it has the potential to rub off on the team. If we show up like Gator fans did against UCF despite their rough season or Arkansas fans against us on Saturday night, than we likely win big.

The Gator line being that high, seems like free money, which is why I don't wager. That being said, I think TN's offense has serious issues that aren't going to be fixed in one week or fixed by playing in Neyland. I think we win, but it is likely going to be an ugly'ish one score game.

Yeah, you have to look deeper than the final score. You have to look at what actually transpired on that field and recognize our struggles. Like you said, our issues on offense aren't going to get fixed in one week.

Just for crap and giggles, I went to the Alabama forums to see how they are reacting after losing to Vandy. I don't see any of them whining about losing to South Carolina or not making the playoffs:

I think that is the difference between a winning culture and a losing culture. I noted that when engaging with Oklahoma fans. They don't have the best team this year but they are still confident and excited. They are not talking about losing to Texas, they are focusing on having a chance to win.
