I Miss BP

If you put Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith -- two guys Pearl inherited -- on this year's UT team, there would be some offense too. Pearl's teams were helpless in the half court once those two guys graduated.
Pearl's '09-'10 team came pretty close to a final four with all Pearl players.

What an uninformed post. We were so helpless in the half court Pearl almost made the Elite Eight without those great guards.

If you put Goins on this team they win. If you put Chism on this team, they win.

If Pearl coached this team they win. Pearl was a better coach hands down. I hope we get him back before someone else in the SEC gets him. He will coach again and successfully. Zo does not gameplan well at all....so far.

Goins is the worst PG UT has had in a long time.

The only thing Pearl could really coach was inbound defense and full court press. Half court offense and half court defense were a mess. Remember the Vandy game where the announcer said that he couldn't tell whether UT was playing a zone or man to man because our guys weren't moving around enough?

Pearl was the perfect coach for UT at the time. We needed the energy. I'm sad that he imploded and that it didn't work out; he should have been the UT coach for 15 years. But now that he's gone, there's no sense whitewashing his shortcomings.

That half court defense looked pretty good when he knocked off Number 1 Memphis and held them to 62 points

I disagree about the half court defense. Pearl was pretty good at it. They had disappointing games, but his last two years the D was pretty good, and he only had one truly bad defensive year (2008-2009, which was awful).

His D wasn't like Martin's is/going to be, but still pretty good.

His offense was atrocious and embarrassing.

You mean when they fell in love with the three after making a few of them and shot themselves out of the ballgame?

That was a great scheme by pearl. He packed it in to almost to a 2-3 zone and forced them and allowed them to take long shots. Are you saying Pearl doesn't get credit for deciding to play Memphis like that? That's just smart coaching. But hey i am not trying to start argument just making some points. Let's hope martin can get some offense going and gets some wins! Go Vols!
